Africa Cup of Nations: Sudan v Angola Odds and Betting Preview

MALABO, EQUATORIAL GUINEA - The second round of Group B matches kicks off Thursday in Malabo with table-topping Angola taking on Sudan. Angola are favourites for the match and can be backed at best odds of 23/20 (bet £20 to make £23 profit) with Skybet to claim another three points and almost ensure their qualification for the quarter-finals. Sudan could not break down the Ivory Coast defence last time out and are quoted at best odds of 100/30 with Paddy Power and totesport to claim victory in this match. The draw is quoted at best odds of 9/4 at Paddy Power and Betfred.
Sudan have not won an Africa Cup of Nations match since 1970 and as one of the lowest ranked sides in this competition few would expect them to do so this time. Their performance in qualifying where they did not lose a match in their Group impressed many, especially seeing as Ghana were also in the group. Built around a solid defence (they only conceded once in qualification), Sudan are capable of causing an upset if their attackers find some fluency. Sudan will also be encouraged after their performance against Ivory Coast, where many thought the Ivorians would run riot against physically inferior opposition.
Angola have plenty of attacking options capable of penetrating the Sudan defence, with former Manchester United striker Manucho leading the line effectively. Angola's victory over the much fancied Burkina Faso side did not quite set pulses racing but did show that the 2010 hosts have plenty to offer in the tournament and are determined to build on their quarter final appearances in the past two tournaments. This match is a must win encounter for Angola if they want to win the group as their final match against Ivory Coast will easily be the toughest of the competition for Lito Vidigal's men.
Boomakers are predicting a low scoring affair as under 2.5 is a top priced 1/2 shot with 888 Sport and Skybet, whilst over 2.5 goals in the match is available at best odds of 2/1 at William Hill.
Low scoring results clog the top of the correct score betting, with a 1-0 win for Angola a top priced 5/1 shot at Ladbrokes and Blue Square. The next most likely scoreline according to the betting is a 1-1 draw which can be backed at best odds of 11/2 with bet365 and Betinternet, whilst a 0-0 draw is top priced at 7/1 with Ladbrokes. Sudan are quoted at best odds of 8/1 with Paddy Power to win the match by a goal to nil.B
Sudan are as long as 15/2 with totesport to win the match after leading at half-time, while draw/Sudan is a best priced 8/1 chance with Betfred and 888 Sport. Angola/Angola is available at best odds of 5/2 with bet365 and Skybet, with draw/Angola top priced at BetVictor and Boylesports.
The match kicks off at 1600 GMT and is live on Eurosport
