Britain`s Andy Murray and Laura Robson team up for this year`s Hopman Cup competition, both looking to get into top form for the upcoming Australian Open. However, they will face stiff competition from Australia and Russia, who are both fielding strong teams.
Australia`s pairing of Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosur are the top seeds for the tournament, and are also the bookies` favourites at 9/4. Russia`s team of Igor Andreev and Elena Dementieva are priced at 3/1. Britain are at 5/1, followed by Germany and Spain at 6/1. The USA and Romania are at 12/1 and 20/1 respectively, and the outsiders are Kazakhstan at 25/1.
Britain`s group for the round robin stage consists of Russia, Germany and Kazakhstan, and they have made a decent start, with Murray making up for Robson`s loss with a regulation win over Andrey Golubev. Robson and Murray then beat Golubev and partner Shvedova 6-3, 5-7, 7-6, to set up an intriguing clash with Germany, who lost to Russia in their opening match.
The other round robin group is made up of Australia, Spain, USA and Romania. Romania shocked Australia, beating them 2-1, and Spain thrashed the USA 3-0 to leave the group poised.
Whatever the result here for the British pairing, both players will go into the Australian Open hopeful, with Murray desperate to finally add his first Grand Slam title to his growing list of accolades.
