WBO World Welterweight Championship - Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey
By Harry Maude on 2010-03-14 01:18:55
Manny Pacquiao defends his WBO Welterweight championship belt against Ghanaian fighter Joshua Clottey tonight. Pacquiao was originally scheduled for a super-fight against the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather, but the fight fell through over a disagreement about blood testing. Pacquiao may fight Mayweather at a future date, but must first get through this tough clash with Clottey, who has never been knocked out.
Pac-Man is unsurprisingly favourite for the fight, priced at 1/7 (bet $70 to make $10 profit), while Clottey is best-priced at 13/2. The draw is priced at 69/1 with Betfair.
Both boxers last fought against Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto, and while Pacquiao triumphed by a TKO, Clottey lost on a split decision. Clottey`s overall record is 35 wins and 3 losses, with 20 of his wins coming via KO. Pacquiao has fought a total of 55 times, with 50 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws. 38 of his wins have come with knockouts, but he has also been KO`d twice.
The favourite way for the match to end is via a Pacquiao win in rounds 7-12, which is priced at 7/4. Pac-Man is priced at 15/8 to win on points, and is 9/4 to win in the first six rounds. Clottey is 6/1 to win in either rounds 1-6 or 7-12, and is 22/1 to win on points.
Betfred offer 4/6 on the fight going the full distance, while you can back it not to at 2/1 with Betfair, which can mean a guaranteed profit either way, with an edge for the punter of 6.7%.
Should Pacquiao win tonight, most boxing fans will be optimistic of the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight going ahead at some point after Mayweather faces Shane Mosley on the second of May. Nevertheless, Pacquiao will face a tough match tonight, and will need to be wary of the 33 year old Ghanaian.
