Amir Khan is set to face his first title defence after winning the WBA World Light Welterweight belt by beating Andreas Kotelnik. The winner of the fight between Khan and Kotelnik was to face the up-and-coming Salita and the day has finally arrived. David Haye recently put British boxing back on the map, by claiming a World Heavyweight belt, and Khan will be looking to continue this by holding on to his.
Khan, who won an Olympic silver medal before turning professional, has a good record in professional boxing, losing only once in his 22 fights. His sole loss came against Breidis Prescott, when he was knocked out in under a minute. Salita has also got a good record, with 30 wins from his 31 fights.
Khan is a heavy favourite for the fight, priced at 1/5, while Salita is at 9/2. The draw is priced at 33/1.
According to the bookies, the most likely method of victory is a win for Khan by KO. This is priced at 5/6. Fifteen of Khan`s 22 wins have come by knockout. The second favourite result is a a points win for Khan at 2/1. Salita is 8/1 to knock Khan out, and 20/1 to win on points.
The Pride of Bolton is 5/1 to win in either rounds 4-6 or 7-9, and 13/2 to win in rounds 1-3. He is also 8/1 to win in rounds 8-12. Salita is 28/1 to win in rounds 4-6 or 7-9, and 33/1 to win in rounds 1-3 or 10-12.
Khan is Britain`s third youngest champion boxer ever, at only 22, and if he wins this fight, he could face a match up with fellow Brit Ricky Hatton, which would be a massive excitement for all British fans.
