Manchester City host arch-rivals Manchester United in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final tonight, with new City boss Roberto Mancini bidding for his first silverware with the club. Former Inter Milan boss Mancini won his first three matches in charge but lost 2-0 at Everton on Saturday and will be eager to win over the City fans with a victory here.
Sir Alex Ferguson will also be desperate to win after his side crashed out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 loss to Leeds recently, although some of that humiliation will have been erased after crushing Burnley 3-0 last weekend.
City are favourites for the match, priced at 11/8 (bet £80 to make £110 profit), while United are at 2/1. The draw is also at 12/5.
A 1-1 draw is the favourite result, priced at 6/1, followed by a 1-0 City win at 15/2. A 2-1 City win and a 2-1 United win are both at 10/1, and a goalless draw is at 11/1, as is a 2-0 City win. A 2-1 win for the Red Devils is at17/2, and a 2-2 draw is at 15/1.
Man City are 7/2 to be winning at half time and full time and draw / draw is at 9/2. Draw / City is at 5/1, ahead of United / United at 11/2. Draw / United is at 7/1.
United`s talismanic striker Wayne Rooney is favourite to open the scoring at 6/1. He is currently joint top scorer in the league with 15 goals and scored last time out against Burnley. City`s Carlos Tevez is 13/2 to open the scoring against his old club, closely followed by Craig Bellamyat 13/2, with Roque Santa Cruz at 7/1. Dimitar Berbatov is at 15/2, with Robinho at 9/1.
City have so far beaten Crystal Palace, Fulham, Scunthorpe and Arsenal, while United have beaten Spurs, Barnsley and Wolves. Despite City being favourites for the match, they are underdogs for the tie, and are 11/10 to reach the final. United, on the other hand are 4/6 to reach the final. United are favourites to win the competition at 15/8, while City are at 5/2.
