Carling Cup betting - Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur
By Harry Maude on 2009-12-01 19:15:05
Tottenham travel to Old Trafford tonight in a repeat of last year`s Carling Cup final. Manchester United won that match, after triumphing on penalties, but both teams are expected to rest key players for this game. Spurs won the competition in 2008, and are tonight bidding to reach the semi-finals for a record equalling twelfth time.
United are favourites for the match, priced at 11/10 (bet £100 to make £110 profit), while Spurs are at 11/4. The draw is priced at 13/5. In terms of qualification, United are 8/15 to qualify, while Spurs are 7/4.
The bookies` favourite result is a 1-1 draw at 13/2, ahead of a 2-1 United win at 7/1. A 1-0 win for the Red Devils is at 15/2, and a 2-0 win is at 17/2. A 1-0 Spurs win is at 10/1, with a goalless draw at 12/1. A 2-1 win for Spurs is at 14/1.
Sir Alex Ferguson`s side are priced at 13/5 to be winning at half time and full time, and draw / United is priced at 4/1. Draw / draw is at 5/1, followed by Spurs / Spurs at 13/2.
The first goalscorer market is naturally cluttered due to the uncertain nature of the starting line-ups tonight. Wayne Rooney is the bookies` favourite but seems certain not to play tonight. Michael Owen will start for United, probably with either Danny Welbeck or Federico Macheda, while Spurs will start with Robbie Keane and then either Peter Crouch or Roman Pavlyuchenko.
Owen is priced at 11/2 to score first, with Macheda and Welbeck at 7/1 and 15/2 respectively. Keane and Crouch are at 17/2, ahead of Pavlyuchenko at 10/1.
Tottenham have not beaten Man Utd in a league or cup match since 2001, a run which lasts for 20 games. The two sides` last meeting was earlier this season, when United won 3-1 at White Hart Lane. United are the 4/1 second favourites to win the trophy, with Spurs a bit further down at 7/1.
