Carling Cup: Arsenal vs Bolton odds and betting preview
By Matt Knowles on 2011-10-24 19:34:12
Last year's heart-breaking defeat in the Carling Cup final was the turning-point of Arsenal's season and sparked a run which saw them crash out of contention in all their other competitions in quick succession. This season the Carling Cup will be their best chance of silverware, and they are 8/13 favourites with Coral to win their fourth-round tie with Bolton on Tuesday night. The draw is 10/3 with William Hill, while the visitors are available at 5/1 with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes.
Although Arsene Wenger's men have endured their worst start to a season in recent memory, they have recovered their form and go into the game having won six of their last matches in all competitions, including a 3-0 win over Tuesday's opponents. Bolton have lost six of their last eight and are eighteenth in the table, and will need Arsenal to field an under-strength team, as they have in recent seasons, if they are to have a chance of getting a result at the Emirates.
Despite the disparity is the two teams' form, a 1-1 draw is the favourite score for the game at 15/2 with Sky Bet. Next in the betting are 1-0 and 2-0 home wins, both at 8/1 with William Hill, with 3-0 availale at 11/1 with Blue Square and 888 Sport. The game is 16/1 with Sportingbet to finish goalless, while a 1-0 win for Bolton is as long as 18/1 with Coral.
There is no doubting Robin van Persie's ability in front of goal and the Dutchman is favourite to open the scoring on Tuesday, at 7/2 with Stan James. He is followed in the betting by Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho, both at 11/2 with Bet 365, while Park Chu-Young can be backed at 6/1 with Ladbrokes. Ivan Klasnic is thought to provide Bolton's biggest threat, available at 9/1 with Paddy Power.
Arsenal will likely be keen to get their stars off the pitch as soon as possible, and the Gunners are 6/4 with Blue Square and 888 Sport to lead at both half-time and full-time, with Sky Bet going 7/2 that they win after drawing at the interval. Victor Chandler go 13/2 that both halves are drawn, while Bolton/Bolton and draw/Bolton are 12/1 and 14/1 respectively with Boylesports and Ladbrokes.
The game kicks off at 19.45 BST.

Wenger must want to end the club's silverware drought after last season's shocking defeat in the final so will need to keep some quality on the pitch surely?
