Premier League football: Chelsea vs West Brom betting preview
By Matt Knowles on 2011-08-19 20:00:00
Chelsea are favourites to beat West Brom on Saturday as the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge for the second round of Premier League fixtures this season. Bookmakers offer only 1/3 (William Hill) on a home win, with the draw at 9/2 with several firms. West Brom are as long as 11/1 with Boylesports and Paddy Power for a shock away win.
Neither side was blessed with an easy opening game and neither got the kind of result they would have hoped to start the season with. Chelsea were held 0-0 at Stoke, despite an encouaging performance, while West Brom lost 2-1 to Manchester United and will be cursing their luck after drawing the Champions and runners-up in their first two matches.
A comfortable win for Chelsea looks likely and bookmakers have made 2-0 the favourite score for the match, with Bet 365 and William Hill offering 6/1. 1-0 can be backed at 7/1 with Ladbrokes, with 3-0 at 15/2 with Paddy Power and William Hill. Most layers offer 10/1 on a 1-1 draw, while a 1-0 win for West Brom is 33/1 with Stan James.
New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas would have been delighted to see Fernando Torres back to his best last weekend and the £50 million striker is 7/2 favourite with Bet 365 and Coral to open the scoring on Saturday. Didier Drogba is a standout 4/1 with Bet 365, while Nicholas Anelka is available at 5/1 with Ladbrokes. Peter Odemwingie is the biggest danger to the Chelsea goal and is generally a 12/1 shot.
In the half-time/full-time market, the most likely course of events is Chelsea/Chelsea, at 5/6 with Paddy Power and Sky Bet, ahead of draw/Chelsea at 7/2 in most places. Draw/draw is 8/1 with Victor Chandler, while West Brom are 28/1 with Boylesports to lead at both half-time and full-time.
Manchester United are favourites to win the Premier League this season and are no bigger than the 6/4 available with Bet 365. Chelsea are very much in the hunt, however, generally priced at 3/1.
