Championship football betting - Crystal Palace vs Bristol City

Paul Hart`s first game in charge of Crystal Palace ended in a 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Saturday. The cash-strapped side, who lost manager Neil Warnock to rivals QPR, will hope for a similar result and performance tonight as they look to put some distance between them and the drop zone. Palace are currently twentieth in the Championship after their financial issues cost them a ten-point deduction and are out of the bottom three only on goal difference.
The hosts are favourites for the game, however, at evens (bet £10 to win £10 profit), leaving City as underdogs at 3/1. Neither side is in good form going into the game, with both winning only one of their last five matches, but Palace will be happier with their showing last time out as City were humiliated in front of their own fans, losing 5-2 to Doncaster Rovers. The draw is available at 5/2 with Paddy Power but the teams have only recorded one draw between them in their last ten matches.
The bookmakers believe the teams are very evenly matched and have made a 1-1 draw the joint most likely score for the game at 6/1, with a 1-0 win for Palace available at the same price and 2-0 at 17/2. 0-0 is slightly longer at 9/1 and a 1-0 win for Bristol City, which would be only their third this season, is at the same price.
Stern John, who had a loan spell at Bristol City last season, has been made 6/1 joint favourite to come back to haunt them by opening the scoring tonight, along with Alan Lee, who scored the winner on Saturday. Darren Ambrose, Palace`s top scorer this season with seventeen goals in all competitions, is 7/1. City`s best hope of scoring the first goal of the match is seen to be Nicky Maynard, also at 7/1, ahead of Chris Iwelumo, on loan from Wolves, at 17/2 with Bet365.
Crystal Palace are 5/2 with Stan James to lead tonight at both half-time and full-time and 9/2 to win the match after drawing at half-time. The bookmakers offer 4/1 that both halves end in a draw and Bristol City are 7/1 to be winning at both the interval and the final whistle. Draw/Bristol City is available at 8/1.
Both sides are in some danger of relegation this season but Palace are seen as the more likely of the two sides to go down at 9/5, with City available at 5/1.
