Championship football betting - West Brom vs QPR
By Matt Knowles on 2009-12-14 19:00:17
West Brom host QPR tonight in the Coca-Cola Championship hoping to take advantage of the internal problems the South London clubs has been facing this week. Manager Jim Magilton allegedly head butted midfielder Akos Buzsaky in a dressing-room bust-up and this cannot help a team which has managed only one win in seven matches. West Brom have been at the right end of the table all season, sitting in second, but have failed to win in their last two, going down 2-0 at home to Cardiff last time out.
The hosts will go into the game as favourites at 4/6 (bet $60 to win $40 profit), leaving struggling QPR as underdogs at 5/1. The draw is available at 11/4. Last time the sides met was in may last year and West Brom came out on top with a 2-0 win in South West London which was sealed by a goal from Chris Brunt, who is expected to start today.
The bookmakers have made 1-0 to West Brom the joint most likely score of the game, priced at 7/1, along with a 1-1 draw. Next most likely is another 2-0 win for the Baggies, at 8/1, ahead of 0-0 at 14/1 and West Brom have recorded two of these in their past ten games. A 1-0 win for underdogs QPR is also at 14/1 and 2-0 is at 40/1.
Czech international Roman Bednar is joint-favourite to open the scoring tonight at 5/1, along with Simon Cox, bought in the summer from Swindon Town, who has hit five goals already this season. Luke Moore is 6/1 to score first, ahead of Chris Wood at 7/1, but the eighteen year-old has only managed one goal is his twelve appearances so far. Jay Simpson, on loan from Arsenal, represents QPR`s best chance of scoring the first goal, priced at 9/1.
West Brom are 8/5 to be winning at both half-time and full-time tonight 7 and /2 to win after the scores are level at half-time. Both halves to be drawn is 11/2 and QPR to snatch a win after drawing at the interval is 11/1. The visitors are available at the same price to hold a lead at both the break and the final whistle.
Tonight`s hosts are second favourites to win the Coca-Cola Championship this season after a strong start but will have to come back from the disappointment of their last two results. QPR seem to be almost in free-fall but are still ranked as the seventh best team in the league at 50/1.
