By George Coombs on 2012-02-19 00:33:15
BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA – Three points separates the teams at the halfway stage of the Commonwealth Bank Triangular series and Australia entertain India at the Gabba on Sunday, in what looks set to be an exciting encounter. Sri Lanka stunned Australia on Friday and the hosts will be forced to play this game without their skipper Michael Clarke who is still sidelined by an injury.
Despite suffering back to back defeats Australia have been priced up as the 3/4 favourites (bet £4 to make £3 profit) with sportingbet for this tie. India have grown in confidence as the series has gone on and they are a general 6/5 chance to take the spoils in Brisbane.
Australia’s progress has been hampered by injuries lately and the side will be leader by former captain Ricky Ponting in this game. Mitchell Marsh is another player who will miss the game and his injury looks set to rule him out of the rest of the series. The wicket at Brisbane is expected to offer some help to the seamers and Clint McKay has looked the pick of Australia’s attack despite conceding 13 runs in the final over of their last game to hand India an unlikely victory.
India tied their last game with Sri Lanka as their captain MS Dhoni managed to hit three runs off the final delivery to level the scores. This tie followed two consecutive victories and the Indians will look to continue to build momentum as they push for a place in the series final. India have a great record at the Gabba and have won their last three encounters at this ground and the sunny weather conditions forecast for Sunday should allow for a thrilling game of cricket.
In the Top Australia Batsman betting David Warner and Ricky Ponting have been installed at 4/1 co-favourites. Ponting is in desperate need of some runs as he has only managed to amass 12 runs in Australia’s opening four games of the series. Matthew Wade and Mike Hussey come next and are quoted at 5/1 with sportingbet while Peter Forrest is a 6/1 chance with Stan James following his debut in the last match.
The most prominent player in the Top India Batsman betting is Sachin Tendulkar who can be backed at 15/4 with bet365. The veteran is still searching for his 100th international hundred and he will be desperate to help his side to another victory over the hosts. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir are both priced up at 4/1 with Boylesports while Rohit Sharma is a standout 6/1 chance with Blue Square. The captain MS Dhoni is available at 8/1 with Skybet to top score fo his side and he has been instrumental in recent games helping his side secure their wins.
India look set to stick to the opening combination that played in their last game and with Gambhir making consecutive 90s he and Tendulkar are quoted at an industry best price of 11/10 with Stan James in the Highest Opening Partnership market. Australia’s opening pair of David Warner and Matthew Wade are yet to fire in the competition but have been priced up as the 10/11 favourites with most firms today.
Play begins at 03.20 GMT on Sunday 19th February and all the action is broadcast live on Sky Sports 2.
