FA Cup Third Round: Barnsley v Swansea Odds and Betting Preview
By Jack Howard on 2012-01-07 08:00:02
BARNSLEY, UK – Championship side Barnsley host Swansea City this afternoon in the third round of the FA Cup. The Swans have been impressive in the Premier League so far this season, and despite playing away from home they start as 6/4 (bet £4 to make £6 profit) favourites with Stan James. Barnsley, on the other hand, are on offer to secure a victory at a slightly longer 21/10 with Ladbrokes, whilst the draw can be backed at a stand out 12/5 with Skybet. The bookmakers are clearly anticipating a close contest.
Swansea are currently twelfth in the Premiership, and go in to today’s fixture off the back of some impressive results. Brendan Rodgers’ side secured an important 2-0 victory away against Aston Villa on Monday, and held on-form Tottenham to a stubborn 1-1 draw in the game before that. The side from south Wales will be hoping to carry their fine form into this upcoming game against Barnsley, and will be doubly encouraged by their opponents’ poor displays of late. Barnsley have lost four of their last five competitive encounters, and know they need to improve significantly if they are to challenge Swansea.
In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored is evens with Bet365, whilst under 2.5 goals is on offer at 17/20 with Betinternet. For those punters anticipating a close yet goalless fixture in which the sides cancel each other out defensively, however, under 0.5 goals can be backed at a longer 10/1 with Ladbrokes.
Danny Graham has been Swansea’s most potent attacking player so far this season, netting six crucial goals in the Premier League. Graham starts this afternoon’s match as favourite to be the first name on the score sheet, and can be backed at best odds of 11/2 with Paddy Power. Barnsley’s most dangerous forward, on the other hand, is Ricardo Vaz Te, who has ten goals to his name so far this campaign. Vaz Te is on offer to break the deadlock at 15/2 with Bet365.
Swansea are quoted at best odds of 10/3 with Blue Square to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Swansea is on offer at 5/1 with Coral. Draw/Barnsley is available at 7/1 with Ladbrokes, whilst those punters who think that the home side will fight back to win the game after trailing at half time can back Swansea/Barnsley at longer odds of 33/1 with Boylesports.
Kick-Off is at 15.00 GMT
