FA Cup: Bristol Rovers vs Aston Villa Odds and Betting Preview
By Tom Goulding on 2012-01-06 12:00:03
BRISTOL, UK - League One side Bristol Rovers's role in the FA Cup is reversed this round; after avoiding embarrasment by beating minnows AFC Totton in the second round, they now play the role of the proverbial David against the Goliath of Premier League Aston Villa in the Third Round on Saturday evening. Aston Villa are favourites at 4/7 (bet £7 to win £4) with Blue Square and Bet365, while Bristol Rovers are underdogs at a best price of 6/1 with Victor Chandler. Punters can back the draw at 10/3, another best price with Victor Chandler.
Aston Villa have been a model of inconsistency in the Premier League this season, only this last week winning away at Chelsea and then losing at home to Swansea. It's hard to say which Villa will turn up on Saturday evening, but their quality should be enough to see them through the tie. Coral are offering 15/2 for them to win the game 1-0, and 8/1 for a 2-0 away win. Paddy Power price a 3-0 Villa win at 12/1 while you can get 25/1 on a 4-0 away win with Boylesports.
If you think the Premier League side will have no problems avoiding an upset then you can back Villa to win both halves at a top price of 3/1 with Stan James and Coral. Villa are 2/1 with Victor Chandler to win to nil, while Bristol Rovers are 11/1 with Paddy Power.
Villa are 6/4 to be winning at half-time and full-time, while it is a best price of 7/2 with Boylesports for Draw/Villa in the same half-time/full-time market. Villa are 13/8 with Coral to win with a (-1) handicap, and 4/1 with the same firm for a win by 3 or more goals. Betfred and Boylesports are offering 11/8 on Rovers to win with a (+1) goal advantage added to their score.
The ESPN cameras are there clearly hoping for an upset for their viewers, and Rovers are 21/1 on Betfair to sneak a 1-0 win, while the 2-1 home win is 20/1, best with Boylesports. Rovers would certainly settle for the draw, which would send them to Villa Park in a prestigious replay in 10 days time, and it is 16/1 with Sky Bet that Rovers hold Villa to a goalless draw. William Hill and Victor Chandler are offering 15/2 on a 1-1 draw.
Rovers are 2/1 with Paddy Power to win either half, while they are priced at 3/1 with William Hill to qualify any way from the tie. Villa are little value at 1/4, best with Paddy Power to qualify for the Fourth Round.
The match is live on ESPN and kicks off at 1730 GMT.
