FA Cup: Norwich v Leicester Odds and Betting Preview
By Matt Knowles on 2012-02-18 11:15:10
NORWICH, UK: Norwich City host Leicester City on Saturday afternoon in the fifth round of the FA Cup. While manager Paul Lambert maintains Premier League survival remains his team's main ambition this season, despite his side appearing to be almost clear of danger, Norwich fans would surely love a cup run to top off a great season, and the Canaries are evens (bet £10 to win £10 profit) with Bet 365 to overcome Leicester, who are 10/3 with Betfred. The draw is priced at 10/3 with Paddy Power.
Norwich have had as good a start to life in the top flight as they could possible have hoped for, and currently sit as high as eighth in the table despite having gone into the campaign tipped by most pundits for a swift return to the Championship. Leicester could not have picked a worse time to travel to Carrow Road, as Norwich have won six of their last eight games, in which time they have also held Chelsea to a draw, to show just what a fabulous job Paul Lambert has done on limited resources. Leicester, by contrast, are one of the most costly sides in the Championship but have managed to climb no higher than 12th, although they are inconsistent and can trouble anyone if they are in form.
The favourite score for the game is a 1-1 draw, at 13/2 with William Hill. Next in the betting is 1-0 to Norwich, at 7/1 with Ladbrokes, who also offer 9/1 on 2-0, with the same price available on a comfortable 2-0 home win. 1-0 to Leicester is priced at 11/2 with Coral, with a 0-0 draw at 12/1 with Sky Bet, in the event of which Bet 365 will refund losing HT/FT, correct score and scorecast bets as part of their 'Bore Draw' offer. The two meetings between the pair last season, however, were no bore draws, with Norwich winning 4-3 at home and 3-2 away. Ladbrokes go 33/1 on another 3-2, while Boylesports go 150/1 about another 4-3.
Grant Holt has been Norwich's key player over the past couple of seasons and the big striker is their top-scorer over this campaign with nine goals. He is the 5/1 favourite to open the scoring on Saturday with Boylesports and Paddy Power, ahead of Steve Morison at 6/1, also with Paddy Power. Simeon Jackson can be backed at 7/1 with Bet 365, while Dave Nugent, by far Leicester's most effective forward and their best hope of breaking the deadlock, is 8/1 with Ladbrokes and BetVictor.
In the hlaf-time/full-time betting, the most likely course of events is judged to be Norwich/Norwich, at 2/1 with Sky Bet and William Hill, followed by draw/Norwich at 4/1 with BetVictor and draw/draw at 5/1, also with BetVictor. Leicester, meanwhile, are 6/1 wth Stan James to lead at both half-time and full-time and 8/1 with Paddy Power to win the match after drawing at the break.
Neither side are among the favourites to win the FA Cup this season, with Norwich available at 28/1 with Coral and Leicester as long as 100/1 with Paddy Power.
The game kicks off at 15.00 GMT.
