Oscars 2010 betting

The Oscars take place tomorrow night, and after The Hurt Locker’s victory over Avatar in the BAFTAs, it is seen to be the favourite to claim the ultimate accolade. The score between the two films in major awards is now 1-1, with James Cameron’s Avatar winning the Golden Globe.
Bet365 offer the best odds on the Hurt Locker, at 10/11, while Avatar is best priced at 11/10 with Ladbrokes to win Best Picture. The third favourite for the award is Quentin Tarantino`s film Inglorious Basterds, which is priced at 16/1.
Up in the Air is priced at 50/1, and Precious and Up are both at 80/1. Peter Jackson`s alien film District 9 is priced at 150/1, as is American football film the Blind Side, and An Education. A Serious Man is the outsider, priced at 200/1.
Jeff Bridges looks to be a shoo-in for Best Actor, for his role in Crazy Heart. He has already won the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild award, but was pipped to the BAFTA by Colin Firth.
He is priced at 1/7, and despite having a record of five Oscar nominations and no wins prior to this, Bridges will be heartened by the fact that four of the last five winners of the award were odds-on favourites in the run up, and the favourite is rarely toppled. His main competitors is Firth, who is at 18/1, and George Clooney, at 20/1.
The Best Actress award also has an odds-on favourite, with Sandra Bullock`s performance in The Blind Side taking the plaudits. She is priced at 4/7 for the win. If she wins tomorrow, she will have gone from Worst Actress to Best Actress in 24 hours, as she won a Razzie last night, for the comedy film All About Steve. She will be up against two former Academy Award winners in Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep, but is still heavily favoured to win. Streep is at 12/5, and Mirren is at 66/1 with Bet365.
Avatar director James Cameron is the underdog to win the Best Director, behind his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow who directed the Hurt Locker. She is a heavy favourite at 1/4, and Cameron is at 4/1 with Ladbrokes. Despite The Hurt Locker being favourite for both Best Picture and Best Director, Avatar is seen as the favourite to beat Bigelow’s film in a straight fight. Avatar is 1/2 to win more Oscars, while The Hurt Locker is 6/4.
