Ryder Cup European wildcard selections announced

CELTIC MANOR, WALES - European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie has announced his three wildcard selections to play in the prestigious competition in early October.
Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Eduardo Molinari will all play in the Ryder Cup while Justin Rose and Paul Casey will miss out. The choice of Harrington over Casey is possibly the most controversial part of the decision because on almost all known readings of recent golf form and Ryder Cup past performance Casey is the better player.
Casey had been top priced at 4/9 to be selected while Rose had been 4/7. Eduardo Molinari was 7/1 just a week ago to be selected while Harringon was 1/4 and Donald was 1/2. Molinari effectively gave Montgomerie little choice but to select him when he won the Johnnie Walker Championsip this weekend, sinking three birdies on the last three holes to show what an incredible player he is under pressure. He will be playing alongside his younger brother Francesco who was an automatic Ryder Cup selection.
Europe have drifted slightly in the outright Ryder Cup betting following the announcement and can now be backed at 8/11 (bet £11 to make £8 profit) with Sky Bet. America are 7/4 with William Hill and Ladbrokes and the tie is 11/1 with Bet 365.
