World Golf Championship betting - CA Championship

The WGC CA Championship is a relatively new event. The tournament has been held only ten times and six of those were won by Tiger Woods. However, Tiger is not taking part this year, giving the chance for several of golf`s biggest names to compete for $8.5 million purse on the `Blue Monster` course at Doral, Miami, Florida. The course, a 7,266 Par 72, gets its name from the twelve water hazards it boast and it will be a real test for every player.
Phil Mickelson has been made favourite to win the CA Championship this year at 9/1. The San Diego native, nicknamed lefty, is looking to defend his title and will hope to build on his three wins in 2009 as early as possible this year. The highlight of 2010 so far is a T-8th at the Pebble Beach National Pro Am, but the world`s number three player knows this course and is rightly the favourite for this event.
Following Mickelson is Steve Stricker at 14/1. Stricker is ranked second in the world, behind only Tiger Woods, and has recently taken his game to the next level, winning three times last year and already taking the Northern Trust Open title this February. The American`s main strength is the accuracy of his driving and this will be vital on a course with so many hazards.
Paul Casey came T-4th at last week`s Honda Classic and is 18/1 with Bet365 to improve on that in Miami this week. Casey is one of several English players currently enjoying great success and the thirty-two year-old has worked his way up to sixth in the world rankings. Some of his rivals, however, include Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter, both at 25/1 and fourth and fifth respectively. Westwood won the Race to Dubai and Poulter has already taken the Accenture Match Play this year, so we know they show up in the big events.
Australian Geoff Ogilvy is another former winner taking part this year. Ogilvy won the event two years ago and has already tasted success in 2010, winning the SBS Championship in January to add to his two wins last year, which included the Accenture Match Play Championship. The world`s eleventh best player is 28/1 to regain his title here.
Other interesting players include Camilo Villegas, who won the Honda Classic last week, at 18/1. The Columbian is ranked twelfth in the world and will hope to add to his three wins. Jim Furyk, ranked seventh, won this event in 2000 and is 25/1, with 2002 winner Ernie Els at 40/1.
The CA Championship tees off at 4.25pm UK time on Thursday.
