US PGA Tour Golf betting - Phoenix Open

The Phoenix Open tees off today at the Tournament Players Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, a 7,216 yard course with a par of 72. Several top golfers are involved this year, including Ian Poulter and Phil Mickelson, to compete for a prize pool of $6 million, with $1.08 million going to the winner. The field is made up of 132 players.
Phil Mickelson has been made favourite for the tournament at 8/1 (bet $10 to win $80 profit). The thirty-nine year-old from San Diego, California, has thirty-seven career wins under his belt and is currently ranked third in the world. The real appeal of Mickelson for this event, however, is that he has won it twice, in 1996 and 2005.
Geoff Ogilvy is the next favourite at 20/1 with Victor Chandler. The Australian has already recorded a win in 2010, taking down the SBS Championship in January, and will want to continue that form in Arizona. Ogilvy, who won the 2006 U.S. Open, is currently ranked twelfth in the world.
Following Ogilvy is another two-time winner of the Phoenix Open, J.B.Holmes. Holmes enjoyed success in Arizona in 2006 and 2008 and is probably most famous for being the fastest golfer ever to earn $1,000,000 on the PGA tour. However, Holmes` only two wins on the tour came here, although he has also displayed some quality in the Ryder Cup. He is priced at 20/1 to win this year.
Ian Poulter, who won the Accenture Match Play Championship last week, is 28/1 to follow that performance with more success here. The thirty-four year-old Englishman who is fifth in the World Rankings, has not played this course before, however, and may feel the effects of the effort he put in at the MPC.
Other interesting participants include Zach Johnson at 35/1 and Kenny Perry at 40/1. Johnson, from Iowa, has not won since May last year but still finished last season fourth on the money list, the highest in his career so far. Perry won this event last year, as well as the Travelers Championship, and will hope to use his experience to his advantage. Despite his advancing years, the forty-nine year-old is ranked fourteenth in the world.
The next event on the PGA Tour is the Honda Open, played in Florida on March 7th.
