The Hong Kong Golf Tour is held for the fiftieth year in a row at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling. One hundred and forty-four golfers will compete for $2.5 million in prize money across this 6,700 yard long par 70 course, including Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Colin Montgomerie.
Rory McIlroy is favourite for the tournament at 9/1 (bet $10 to win $90 profit). The twenty year-old from Northern Ireland came second last year after losing a play-off for the title with Lin Wen-tang and last weekend finished fourth in the HSBC Champions Tour. Although still incredibly young, he is ranked in the top twenty golfers in the World and will want to take this chance to add to his only win this season, which came in February in Dubai.
Lee Westwood is second-favourite, priced at 11/1. The Englishman is ranked tenth in all-time wins on the European Tour, put on a strong performance last weekend in Shanghai and looks set to win the Race To Dubai. While the field in Hong Kong is strong, Westwood will fancy his chances of adding to his nineteen wins this year.
Lin Wen-tang of Taiwan, who won last year`s tournament with an unexpected flash of brilliance, is 50/1 to repeat this feat. He looked dangerous at the Champion`s Tour before hitting a dreadful 76 and before that won the Taiwan Open. If he can eliminate some of the blips he is prone to then he will be a real threat again.
Colin Montgomerie is the fourth most successful golfer of all time on the European Tour, and is 70/1 to win this course for the second time in his illustrious career. Europe`s Ryder Cup Captain finished fifth in the Egyptian Open in his last appearance but was grateful for his first top ten finish since June last year.
