Newmarket July Festival - Falmouth Stakes Betting Odds

NEWMARKET, UK - Newmarket`s July Festival gets underway this afternoon with a compelling card, featuring the Group One Falmouth Stakes. The big race of the day is due to go off at 3.10pm BST and will be screened live on Channel 4. The mile long race is only open to fillies and mares, and this year`s edition is being billed as a match-up between the Irish-trained Lillie Langtry and the French filly Special Duty.
Lillie Langtry was a very impressive winner of the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, but the Aidan O`Brien filly may have had the run of the race, with a few hard luck stories in behind her. On a form line through Jacqueline Quest, who finished third at Ascot, she ought to take all the beating. The bookies have priced her up accordingly, as Paddy Power and Ladbrokes make her the 9/4 (bet £40 to win £90 profit) favourite to win this afternoon`s Falmouth Stakes.
Special Duty needed the stewards to be awarded both the English and French 1000 Guineas, which is perhaps why Stan James want to take her on at 4/1. Up-and-coming jockey Tom Queally will ride her and there is every chance that she will run a big race.
Next in the betting is the tough mare Strawberrydaiquiri, who has been clipped into 5/1 by Bet 365. She is trained by Sir Michael Stoute and has won six of her eight starts to date
Music Show has been backed into 9/1 from 10/1 with Coral this morning, but she always seems to find excuses in defeat. 10/1 Spacious is classy but still has not broken her Group One duck. Rainfall is also in the mix at the 9/1 mark, and was a game winner of the Jersey Stakes last month.
Gile Na Greine is 16/1 with Blue Square but has it all to do on paper to reverse the Coronation form with Lillie Langtry.
The outsider of the eight runners is Lahaleeb, who is a whopping 50/1 with Totesport - a big price considering she was sold for $1,729,460 at last year`s Tattersalls December mare sale.
