International Friendlies: England v Spain Odds and Betting Preview
By Jack Howard on 2011-11-11 21:33:36
LONDON, UK – England face Spain in their eagerly anticipated international friendly at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. Spain are currently the reigning European and World Champions, and it is hardly surprising that Vicente del Bosque’s side start the game as 10/11 (bet £11 to make £10 profit) favourites with Coral. For those punters anticipating a victory for the home side, however, England can be backed at longer odds of 7/2 with Stan James, whilst the draw is on offer at 13/5 with Betinternet.
Spain have won their last three matches against England, keeping clean sheets in every encounter, and will be eager to extend this emphatic record by another game. Del Bosque is expected to field a full strength side, before resting some of his biggest stars against Costa Rica on Tuesday. Manchester City’s David Silva will start in the midfield alongside Xavi and Iniesta, whilst Fernando Torres is likely to remain on the bench for the first part of the game in favour of Barcelona striker David Villa. England, on the other hand, will be playing without captain John Terry or star player Wayne Rooney. Terry is to be left out in favour of the less experienced Gary Cahill and Joleon Lescott in central defence, whilst Rooney has been omitted to give Darren Bent a chance to shine on the international stage.
In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored is 6/5 with Coral, whilst under 2.5 goals can be backed at 3/4 with Victor Chandler. The bookmakers are clearly not anticipating a goalless draw, however, and punters can back under 0.5 goals being scored at longer odds of 9/1 with Stan James.
David Villa is the highest international goal scorer Spanish history, having netted 50 goals whilst wearing the famous red jersey of his nation. Unsurprisingly Villa is favourite to be the first name on the score sheet in Saturday’s game, and can be backed at best odds of 6/1 with Ladbrokes. Manchester City star David Silva is also thought likely to open the scoring at 10/1 with Victor Chandler, whilst Andres Iniesta, the man who scored the winning goal in the World Cup Final, is available at a slightly longer 12/1 with Skybet. In the absence of Wayne Rooney, England’s most dangerous attacking player is deemed to be Darren Bent, who can be backed to break the deadlock at 9/1 with Victor Chandler.
Spain are quoted at best odds of 11/5 with Ladbrokes to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Spain is on offer at 5/1 with the same bookmakers. Draw/England is available at 17/2 with Skybet, whilst those punters who think that England will come from behind to win the game after trailing at half time can back Spain/England at much longer odds of 50/1 with Paddy Power.
