Leeds host Grimsby tonight in the Northern Area quarter final of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy. The home side are in excellent form, sitting top of League One by seven points already having won six of their last seven in all competitions, scoring ten goals without reply in their last three games. Grimsby, on the other hand, have lost four of their last five and lie second-bottom in League Two.
As expected, Leeds go into this game as solid favourites at 2/7 (bet $70 to win $20 profit), leaving Grimsby as big underdogs at 11/1 with the draw at 5/1. The two sides have not met before in any competition.
2-0 to Leeds has been made the most likely score by the bookmakers at 11/2, ahead of 1-0 at 6/1 and 3-0 to United at 15/2. A 1-1 draw is 11/1 and a surprise 1-0 win for the lower league visitors is priced at 28/1. A goalless draw is available at 16/1.
Jermaine Beckford, Leeds`s highly rated English striker, is favourite to open the scoring tonight at 3/1. Sam Vokes, on loan at Elland road from Wolverhampton Wanderers, is next at 9/2, followed by Nigerian Enoch Showunmi at 5/1. Grimsby`s best hope of scoring the first goal comes in the form of Barry Conlon, an Irish striker with four goals in his eight appearances for Grimsby so far this season.
Leeds are 8/11 to be winning at both half-time and full-time, and 7/2 to win at full-time after drawing at half-time. Both halves to be drawn is available at and a comeback from United after falling behind at half-time is priced at 28/1. Grimsby/Grimsby is 25/1.
Tonight`s hosts are clear favourites to win the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy this year at 11/4, while the strength of their opposition tonight and recent form means that Grimsby are way out at 66/1 for Wembley glory.
