Johnstone's Paint Trophy: Swindon Town vs Barnet Odds and Betting Preview
By Tom Goulding on 2012-02-07 12:32:52
SWINDON, UK - Swindon Town host Barnet tonight live on Sky Sports in the second leg of the Southern Final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Underhill (Barnet), Swindon are best priced at 4/7 (bet £7 to win £4) with Betfred to win the game. A win for either side would take them into the final, and Barnet are priced at a long 6/1, only with Bet Victor, to win the game. Punters can get 10/3, again best with Bet Victor, on the draw.
In a competition open only to teams from League One and League Two, the third and fourth tiers of English football, it is a chance for teams who wouldn't normally get far in the FA or Carling Cup to have a shot at silverware and a chance to play at Wembley. The winner of the tie will go on to play Chesterfield at Wembley, who beat Oldham on the way to winnning the Northern Area of the competition.
Swindon are best at 5/4 with Bet365 to win the competition outright, while Barnert are way back at 9/1, again best with Bet365, to get to Wembley and defeat Chesterfield. Chesterfield are marginally odds-on with all bookies, best at 10/11 with the likes of Blue Square, Coral, Stan James and William Hill.
In the event of a 1-1 draw, then we would get thirty minutes of extra-time and, if need be, penalties. Both teams are 6/1 on Paddy Power to win on penalties.
Swindon manager Paolo di Canio is confident of progressing however, with Swindon 14 places above 17th-placed Barnet in the last automatic promotion spot of 3rd, in League Two. Swindon have an imperious home record this season, taking 29 points from a possible 36 in their 12 home games this season, winning 9 and losing only 1.
They have already played Barnet once at home this season, beating them convincingly 4-0, and it is best at 28/1 with Coral for another 4-0 Swindon win, while you can get 12/1 on the 3-0 home win, with Sky Bet and Coral. 2-0 to Swindon is 15/2, while 1-0 is 13/2, again both with Coral, which seems to be the best firm to go to for correct score odds.
In addition to their goals at home (over 2 goals scored on average per home game), they have kept clean sheets in an impressive 8 of their 9 home wins. Swindon are 15/8 to win to nil, best with Sky Bet, while a home clean sheet is 11/8 with Sky Bet.
As far as Barnet's away form goes, it is unsurprisingly weak for a team in 17th position of a 24-team league. But they have won on occasion on the road - winning four of fourteen away from home, and this is no normal league game. The peak of many of these players' seasons, with relegation unlikely, you can be sure that Barnet will be absolutely going for it if just one or two goals are required by the end.
So it may be worth looking at both teams to score in the game at 10/11 with William Hill or 19/20 on Betfair, as the game opens up towards the end, or over 2.5 goals, best at 4/5 with Bet365 and Blue Square.
The match kicks off at 1945 GMT and is live on Sky Sports.
