La Liga football betting - Barcelona vs Deportivo
By Matt Knowles on 2010-04-14 19:00:12
Barcelona face Deportivo tonight in La Liga as the title race reaches its climax. The defending champions, who won an unprecedented six trophies last season, won `El Clasico` at the weekend, beating bitter rivals Real Madrid 2-0 at the Bernabeu. The win puts them three points clear or Real at the top of the table with a superior goal difference and Pep Guardiola will not want his side to lose focus now that there is daylight between the two teams.
The hosts are hard to look past for the game and the best odds of 1/7 (bet £7 to win £1 profit) for them to win shows that the bookmakers believe it could be almost a formality. Deportivo, who currently sit ninth in La Liga, have lost four of their last five games, have not won in their last six and are 20/1. Their opponents, however, have won fourteen of their fifteen home games in the league this season, drawing once. A draw tonight is available at 8/1.
The bookmakers seem to think a comfortable home win is on the cards tonight and have made a 20 win for Barca the favourite score for the game at 6/1, followed by 3-0 at 13/2, with 1-0 available at 8/1. A resounding 4-0 is slightly longer at 9/1 and a 1-1 draw is as long as 16/1. A surprise 1-0 win for Deportivo, which would send shock-waves through La Liga, is priced at 50/1 with Paddy Power.
Lionel Messi has been made favourite to open the scoring tonight at the incredibly short price of 2/1. The Argentinian has scored an incredible thirty-eight goals this season and some have claimed he is the greatest player in the history of the game. He is followed in the betting by Zlatan Ibrahimovic at 10/3 with Bet365 and Bojan at 4/1. Deportivo`s best hope of scoring the game`s first goal is seen to be Spanish striker Riki, priced at 14/1.
Barcelona are 1/2 with Paddy Power to lead tonight at both half-time and full-time and 9/2 to win the match after drawing at half-time. The bookmakers offer 14/1 that both halves end in a draw and tonight`s visitors are 50/1 to be winning at both the interval and the final whistle. Draw/Deportivo is available at 50/1.
Before the weekend`s action the title race was one of the tightest in La Liga history but Barcelona`s momentous win sees them established as strong favourites at 2/9 for the title, with Real Madrid 4/1 with SkyBet.
