La Liga: Getafe vs Real Madrid Odds and Betting Preview
By Tom Goulding on 2012-02-03 20:00:02
MADRID, SPAIN - Getafe host league leaders Real Madrid in a Madrid derby this Saturday evening with Jose Mourinho's men hoping for another routine victory on their march to the title. Madrid are predictably very short for the win, priced at a best 2/5 (bet £50 to win £20) on Betfair to win the game. Getafe, despite having the home advantage, are 8/1 with most firms, such as Bet365, Betfred and Coral, to create a shock throughout the league and win the game. Punters can back the draw at a top price of 9/2 with Boylesports.
Despite supposed internal strife between manager and boardroom, as well as an alleged training ground bust-up between Mourinho and defender Sergio Ramos, there are no signs that Madrid aren't going to win the title this season. Having dropped only 8 points all season from 20 league games, their league form is nothing short of imperious. Their last dropped points were back on 10th December at home to Barcelona, but since then they have scored 20 goals in 5 games and taken all 15 points available.
Of course they are most likely to drop points away from home, having lost to Levante 1-0 and drawn with Racing Santander, but in the other 8 away games, they have conceded five and scored 29. Madrid are incredibly odds-on to win with a (-1) goal handicap, priced at 10/11 with Blue Square and Coral. They are 21/10 to win by three goals or more, and 6/1 with Ladbrokes to win with a (-3) goal handicap.
But what of Getafe? They are a respectable 9th in La Liga, with an impressive home record of only having lost one game their all season, at home to Rayo Vallecano back in the autumn. Otherwise they have four wins and four draws from the other 8 games, and are on a good run of form, having avoided defeat since 5th December, a run of six games without being overcome. Two away wins in the last two weeks have boosted confidence, and they go into Saturday's derby with nothing to lose.
If Getafe were to win, you'd think it would be sneaking a 1-0 win or something similar, and it is 16/1 with Bet365 for Getafe to win to nil. William Hill offer a rather attractive 29/20 for Madrid to win to nil, while Los Merengues are 2/1 with Coral to win both halves of football (Getafe 50/1 with Stan James in the same market).
Ronaldo and Higuain have scored 15 goals against Getafe between them in the league. Ronaldo is 4/7 with Boylesports and Coral to score anytime (and 11/1 with Stan James to score a hatrick), while Higuain is 10/11 with Stan James and Benzema is 4/5 with most firms. Kaka is 13/10 with Bet Victor while Angel di Maria is best at 7/4, only with Ladbrokes.
Getafe are 13/5 to win either half, which may be worth looking into if you think the (relative) minnows are going to do well against the league leaders without actually picking up a result.
Madrid have won their last six league meetings with Getafe, scoring at least three goals in five of those games, and it is a best price of 8/15 with Boylesports, Sky Bet and Stan James for there to be over 2.5 goals in this game.
The match kicks off at 1900 GMT and is live on Sky Sports.
