La Liga: Atletico Madrid vs Valencia Odds and Betting Preview
By Tom Goulding on 2012-02-05 12:23:29
MADRID, SPAIN - 7th plays host to 3rd this evening in La Liga as Atletico Madrid and Valencia go head-to-head at the Vicente Calderon in the nation's capital. With their home advantage, Atleti are favourites to win the game, priced at a best of 10/11 (bet £11 to win £10) with Blue Square, Coral and Paddy Power. Valencia will want to strengthen their grip on a Champions League place and they are a top price of 7/2 for what would be a very valuable and impressive away win, with Bet Victor, while punters can back the draw at a top price of 13/5, also with Bet Victor. Most other firms are offering 12/5, such as Bodog, Betfred and Boylesports.
Two sides who are traditionally seen to be the leaders of the chasing pack behind the league's two giants in Real and Barca, Valencia are having the stronger season, only 8 points behind Barcelona (who are 2nd) and 4 points ahead of Levante (who are in 4th). Valencia's away form has been fairly respectable, getting the better of most of the worst teams at the bottom (beating Rayo, Sporting Gijon and Real Zaragoza) while getting draws at Villareal, Racing Santander, Mallorca and Osasuna. They have a record of W4 D4 L2 on the road this season.
Given it is likely to be a tight match with not much to separate the two teams, given the slightly stronger team is away from home, it may be worth looking at the draw no bet market for the game. Atleti are 2/5 on Betfair to win (draw no bet) while Valencia are best at 9/4 with Bet365.
It is 9/2 for a draw at both half-time and full-time, while draw/Valencia in the same half-time/full-time result market is 8/1 with Ladbrokes and Bodog, while draw/Atletico is shorter at a top price of 4/1 with Blu Square, Coral and Bodog.
There have not been many goals in games featuring Valencia as the home side - an average of 2.3 goals per game with Valencia away, which is lower than the usual average of most leagues of about 2.6-2.7. 60% of Valencia's games away have gone under 2.5 goals, which can be backed at 10/11, only with Ladbrokes.
There have been more goals at the Calderon however, an average of 2.8 goals per game and 60% of the games there going actually over 2.5 goals. Over 2.5 goals is available at evens with Bet365 only, with most other firms offering just short of evens.
Atletico's short price of odds-on to win the game reflects the fact that they have a very strong home record this season, losing only one game of ten, 2-0 to Real Betis back in December. Apart from that they have taken an impressive 21 points from the other available 27, though most of those game have been against sides from the lower half of the table - they have only played two sides currently in the top half, Osasuna and Levante.
Of Atletico's six home wins, they have kept a clean sheet in three of them, and in two of their three draws, and it is 11/4 only with Bet Victor that the home side win to nil today, with a home clean sheet at 7/4 with Ladbrokes. Valencia are 4/1 to keep a clean sheet with Bet Victor, and 13/2 to win to nil with Bet365
The match kicks off at 2100 GMT and is live on Sky Sports.
