Jeld-Wen Field, Oregon - The Portland Timbers host the New York Red Bulls this evening in Sunday night's MLS matchup. Portland are the slight favourites for the match at 13/8 with Stan James. The Red Bulls are 7/4 with Bet365 to inflict a fourth successive defeat on the Timbers. Coral are 9/4 on the draw.
Portland currently sit eight in the Western Conference standings with a 5-6-2 record after a controverial refereeing decision saw the side's losing streak stretch to three on Saturday night. John Spencer's side have been struggling for goals recently, scoring just six in their past eight matches and will need the likes of Jorge Perlaza and Kenny Cooper to start firing in front of goal if they are to have any hopes of reaching the play-offs this season. The Timbers won their first five home matches of the season and will be looking to begin another winning streak tonight after losing their last two at Jeld-Wen field.
The Red Bulls currenty lead the Eastern Conference standings with 22 points from their first 14 matches. New York ended a five match winless streak with a 2-1 victory over the Revolution and will be looking to improve on a poor road record that has seen the side pick up just one win away from the Red Bull arena all season. Hans Backe's side feature oneof the most potent strike duos in the whole of the MLS in Thierry Henry and Luke Rodgers who have scored a combined 12 goals so far this season. The visitors are missing the likes of Dane Richards, Juan Agudelo, Tim Ream, Dwayne DeRosario and former Barcelona star Rafael Marquez for the match due to Gold Cup commitments.
The Timbers are 13/2 to win the match by a goal to nil whilst 2-1 to the hosts is 9/1 at Betfred. The Red Bulls can be backed to secure a 1-0 victory at 13/2 with Paddy Power whilst 2-0 to the visitors is 11/1 at Victor Chandler. Stan James go 9/1 on a goalless draw.
Six of Portland's last seven games have had less than three goals and punters expecting another low scoring affair can back under 2.5 goals this evening at 4/6 with Stan James. Bet365 offer 6/5 on more than three goals being scored whilst Boylesports are 3/1 on four or more goals. Stan James go 9/4 on less than two goals being scored in the encounter.
Portland/Portland is the favourite in the Half-Time/Full-Time market at a best price of 7/2 with Bet365 whilst Draw/Portland is a 9/2 shot with Paddy Power. New York/New York is a 4/1 chance at Ladbrokes with Draw/Draw 5/1 at Stan James.
Thierry Henry, second in the MLS scoring charts with 7 goals this season, is the favourite to break the deadlock at 5/1 with Bet365. Strike partner Luke Rodgers, who has 5 goals to his name so far this campagn, is a 7/1 shot in the market with Bet365. Kenny Cooper is the Timbers' top chance to open the scoring at 6/1 with Bet365.
The Match Kicks off at 2200 EDT/0300 BST.
