By Ronan Curran on 2011-07-06 16:00:56
Empire Field, Vancouver - Basement club Vancouver take on play-off chasing Columbus Crew this evening at Empire Field. Vancouver are the 6/4 favourites for the match with William Hill. Columbus are 19/10 with Bet365 to win their second away match of the season. The draw is a 23/10 chance with Paddy Power.
Vancouver are enduring a miserable first season in the MLS and currently sit bottom of the Western Conference standings with a league worst 2-8-8 record. The Whitecaps have only picked up two wins all season, both coming at Empire Field, and will be hoping for vast improvement in the second half of their inaugral season. Tom Soehn's side will be looking to pick themselves up after a demoralising defeat to Toronto FC in the Canadian Championship game last week and will be targeting a third win of the season this evening.
Columbus sit third in the Eastern Conference, having picked up 24 points from their first 17 league games. The Crew will be hoping to improve their poor away record against the league's bottom side after winning only one of their opening eight league games. Robert Warzycha's side also come into the match off the back of a demoralising defeat having lost 2-0 to Dallas at the weekend.
In the Correct Score market, Vancouver are 13/2 with Paddy Power to record a 1-0 victory whilst 2-1 to the hosts is 9/1 with Victor Chandler. Columbus can be backed at 7/1 to snatch a one nil win with Bet365 whilst 2-0 to the visitors is 16/1 on Betfair. Stan James offer 9/1 on a goalless draw.
Eight of Vancouver's last ten matches have all seen less than three goals and punters can back under 2.5 goals this evening at 4/6 with Paddy Power. Bet365 are a best priced 5/4 on three or more goals being scored whilst four or more is a 10/3 chance with William Hill. Stan James are 9/4 on less than two goals being scored in the encounter.
Eric Hassli, who has scored six goals in ten appearances for Vancouver, is the favourite to open the scoring at 9/2 with Bet365. Whitecap's winger Davide Chiumiento is a 9/1 shot to grab the opener with Victor Chandler. Andres Mendoza, who has scored six goals in his last seven matches, is Columbia's top chance in the market at 6/1 with Bet365. Venezuelan forward Emilio Rentería is a 13/2 chance with Bet365.
The Match Kicks off at 2200 ET.
