NCAA BCS Championship Game - Texas Longhorns vs Alabama Crimson Tide
By Matt Knowles on 2010-01-08 00:05:07
The biggest game of the College football is held tonight at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena as two undefeated teams, Texas and Alabama, meet to determine who is the best team in the country. Participation in the game is decided by two polls and a computer ranking system, designed to rank the teams in order of ability. The two highest ranked teams face each other in the BCS Championship Game.
Both teams are undefeated but Alabama is ranked as the top team and have been made slight favourites for the game on the money line at -180 (bet $180 to win $100 profit), leaving the second-ranked team as underdogs at +170 (bet $100 to win$170 profit). Betting on the money line so far has been in favour of Texas with 65% of money backing them to cause an upset with a win tonight.
The point spread for the game has been set at a slim four points, making the Crimson Tide favourites at -4 points and giving the Longhorns a handicap of +4 points. Betting against the spread so far has seen the majority of money behind the favourites, with 80% of action backing Alabama.
Both teams may be unbeaten on the field but they have been far from perfect against the spread, with Alabama covering at 8-5 and Texas at 5-7-1. It is also worth noting that Texas have gone 3-7 against the spot in their previous ten bowl games.
Texas and Alabama have both shown the toughness of their defence throughout the season with the former giving up only 15.2 points per game and the latter an even more impressive 11 points per game on average. However, the Longhorns have outscored their opponents, scoring 40.7 PPG to Alabama`s 31.7 PPG.
The Over/Under total for the game has been set at 46 points and betting so far has been fairly even with 54% of action backing the Over. However, during the season neither team recorded more Overs than Unders and Texas are 6-2 on the Under in their last eight games played at a neutral venue. Alabama`s last eight games in all venues have seen five Unders, two Overs and one push.
The payout for the game is a staggering $18,000,000 and neither team will want to lose that or the chance to be officially recognised as the best college football team in the world.
