LONDON – Five days have passed and I haven’t even got on a bike since my last post. After a minor operation to remove a mole on my nose the doctor told me not to do any strenuous exercise for a week. I asked whether cycling counted and he gave me a withering look and [...]

LONDON - A week ago my wife told me that she had a very special 40th birthday present for me. As I am not going to be 40 for another 13 months, it seemed slightly odd but I am not one to turn down special presents.
Wanda then told me that she had entered me in [...]

The final stage of the Tour de France is otherwise known as the 'Champs Élysées Stage' and Mark Cavendish is long odds-on with the bookmakers to become the first rider in Tour history to win the historical stage for a second consecutive year.

Stage 19 of the Tour de France is the only time-trial of this year's race - a 52km stroll alongside the river Garonne from Bordeuax to Pauillac. Whereas Mark Cavendish and Damiano Cunego dominated the sprinting and climbing stages betting respectively, the market for the time-trial has a different complexion.

In terms of the betting events, the Pyrenees were certainly entertaining. Carlos Barredo went long odds-on in running as he made a dash for Pau, only to get reeled in by Pierrick Federigo. Meanwhile the Col de Tourmalet witnessed an epic battle between the two market leaders for Stage 17, Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck. Cycling pundits were all to eager to criticise Schleck for not counter-attacking Contador's move, but punters who backed the Saxo Bank rider to win the stage at 11/4 will not be too concerned about race tactics.

COL DE TOURMALET, FRANCE - The two leading riders in the 2010 Tour de France showed their superiority as they battled to the top of the Col de Tourmalet, crossing the line together one minute and 18 seconds ahead of their rivals.
Andy Schleck took the honours as stage winner but it was Alberto Contador who [...]

We have already seen three Tour de France stages this year in the gruelling Pyrenees. We have seen Alberto Contador feature right at the head of the market in each of the three stages. Yet we have seen all three stages won by Frenchmen in breakaways. Should Stage 17 be any different? The betting certainly thinks so, as this has been the stage billed to decide the winner of this year's edition of La Grande Boucle.

PAU, FRANCE - Stage 16 of the Tour de France produced one of the more exciting finishes to the race this year when Carlos Barredo just failed to make a solo breakaway effort last and was caught by a chasing group with one kilometre to go.
At 15 kilometres to race he led by just 12 [...]

Alberto Contador was the big winner of Stage 15, taking advantage of an Andy Schleck chain derailment to help himself to an eight second lead in the general classification. The Spaniard now looks a certainty to win his third Tour de France, but he will still have to negotiate the dreaded Col du Tourmalet twice in the space of three days if he is to hang onto the yellow jersey until the streets of Paris.
