NFL Monday Night Football – Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings

Posted in NFL Football, Sports on October 5, 2009 @ 11:00 pm by Matt Knowles

The Green Bay Packers travel to NFC north rivals Minnesota tonight in week four of the NFL season. Both sides have made a good start to the year, with Green Bay 2-1 and the hosts a perfect 3-0. Last week the Packers beat the Rams 36-17 in St Louis while the Vikings needed a Brett Favre touchdown pass to Greg Lewis with two seconds remaining to beat San Francisco.

The home side are favourites on the money line for the game at -192 (bet $192 to win $100 profit) making the travelling Packers underdogs at +183 (bet $100 to win $183 profit). The last meeting between these two teams was very close with the Vikings scraping a 28-27 win over the Packers in week 10 of last season. In current betting, 55% of money has been placed on the visitors.

The point spread for the game has been set at 4.5 points, making the Vikings favourites at -4.5, leaving the Packers with a 4.5 point leg-up. So far 75% of money on the point spread has been on the Vikings.

Green Bay covered the spread in their loss to the Vikings last season, and this brings their record to five covers in their last six against tonight’s hosts, including the last four. Last season the Vikings only covered the spread in six games in 17 attempts.

The over/under has been set at 45.5 points. Green Bay’s last three visits to Minnesota have ended Over, and so far this has been reflected by 84% of money being placed this way, despite the high total.

The Vikings are not far out as Superbowl contenders, priced at 14/1. The Packers are slightly bigger at 26/1, but tonight’s game may have a large bearing on how those odds change.
