Week five of the NFL season sees the St Louis Rams host the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings have started the season as well as anyone could hope for at 4-0, last week beating NFC North rivals Green Bay 30-23. St Louis have not started the season with such momentum, losing all four of their games and last week suffering a spirit-crushing 35-0 defeat against San Francisco.
As expected, the Vikings go into the game as heavy favourites at -475 (bet $475 to win $100 profit). The underdog Rams are a long-shot at +450 (bet $100 to win $450 profit). So far on the money line, 59% of money has been on the underdog Rams. Last time the two sides met, the Rams won 41-21 in week 17 of the 2006 season.
On the point spread, the linemakers make Minnesota 10 point favourites at -10. The Rams are +10 underdogs, and so far 99% of betting with the handicap has been in favour of a win for the visiting favourites.
As a home underdog, St Louis have failed to cover the spread in 10 of their last 14 attempts. Last season the Vikings went 6-11 against the spread, but have covered in three of their four attempts so far this season.
The Over/Under is set at 41 points and so far 86% of money has been on the Over. The Vikings have been over in all four decisions so far this season.
The Vikings are priced at 12/1 to win this year’s Superbowl and are fifth-favourites. The Rams on the other hand are as long as 1000/1 after their terrible start to the season.
