UEFA Champions League betting preview – Liverpool vs Lyon

Posted in Soccer, Sports, UEFA Champions League on October 20, 2009 @ 7:00 pm by Harry Maude

Liverpool play host to Lyon tonight, as the reds try to erase memories of their two successive league defeats.

Rafa Benitez’s side lost to Sunderland at the weekend, thanks to a freak goal from Darren Bent, and also fell to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Their odds to win the title have as such been lengthened to 16/1 (bet $10 to make $160 profit), behind big four pretenders Man City. These defeats mean that Liverpool have now lost twice as many league matches as they did in the whole of last season.

This match ranks as a must-win for the Merseyside team as they lost their last match 2-0 away at Fiorentina. They are rated as favourites for the clash at 4/5, whilst Lyon are at 4/1. The draw is at 13/5.

Spanish striker Fernando Torres missed out at the weekend through a groin injury, and is doubtful for the match but is still rated as favourite to open the scoring at 4/1. Captain Steven Gerrard, who also missed out against Sunderland, is expected to play and is 13/2 to score first, followed by Dirk Kuyt at 15/2. Lyon’s Lisandro Lopez is at 15/2.

Liverpool are 9/5 to be winning at half time and full time, and draw / Liverpool is at 4/1. Draw / draw is at 5/1 and Lyon / Lyon is at 9/1.

A 1-1 draw and a 1-0 win for Liverpool are both at 13/2, with a 2-1 win at 15/2. A 2-0 win for Liverpool is at 8/1, and a 0-0 stalemate is at 12/1. A 1-0 win for Lyon is at 14/1.

Liverpool are 17/1 to win the tournament, whilst Lyon are at 33/1.
