Week nine of the NFL season provides us with a huge clash at the top of the NFC East as Dallas travel to Philadelphia to face the Eagles. Both teams have started the season brightly and have identical records of 5-2. Both teams won last week by almost identical scores, Philadelphia beating New York 40-17 and Dallas shooting down Seattle 38-17.
Philadelphia’s strong showing last week and home advantage mean that they are favourites to win tonight on the money line line at -140 (bet $140 to win $100 profit), leaving the Cowboys as underdogs at +130 (bet $100 to win $130 profit). So far, betting on the money line has favoured the Eagles, with 56% thinking they can avoid an upset and go top of the NFC East.
The point spread for the game is set at three points, making the Eagles favourites at -3 points and the Cowboys underdogs with a +3 point handicap. So far betting on the point spread has favoured the Eagles, with 86% of money backing them to win by more than three, as they did last time these sides met, crushing Dallas 44-6 in week seventeen of last season.
So far this season the two teams have generally covered at the same rate as they have won, with Philadelphia covering at 5-2, the same as their on-field record, and Dallas covering at 4-3 against a slightly better 5-2 on the field. Last season each team covered against the other at home.
The Over/Under is set at 48 points and so far 98% of betting has favoured the Over. This is to be expected, as the Eagles have finished Over in six of their seven decisions and Dallas in five of their seven decisions.
Both teams are given a reasonable chance of winning the Super Bowl this year, with the Eagles slightly more likely at 15/1 to the Cowboys’ 22/1.
