Super Bowl 2010 betting update

Florida’s Miami Gardens will play host to the Super Bowl this year as the Indianapolis Colts face the New Orleans Saints. Both teams are the top-seeded teams from their respected Conferences and started the season looking almost unbeatable, with New Orleans winning their first thirteen games in a row and the Colts going 14-0, before resting their players for the post-season.

Indianapolis, lead by the incredible Peyton Manning, have so far beaten the Ravens and the Jets in the play-offs. After a shaky start against the latter the Colts offence started firing and they came away with a 30-17 win. Indy are yet to lose a game when Peyton Manning stays on the field and it will take a very tough defence to stop the future Hall of Famer.

The Saints looked just as dangerous, starting the season better than they could have imagined, but slowed down and lost their last three games, including a defeat to Tampa Bay. No team has ever won the Super Bowl after losing to the Bucs in the regular season. The Saints can also count themselves lucky to be in the Super Bowl, as they won the NFC after intercepting Minnesota’s Brett Favre in overtime.

The Colts are favourites for the game on the money line at -188 (bet $188 to win $100 profit), leaving the Saints as underdogs at +176 (bet $100 to win $176 profit). The teams have not met since 2007 but the Colts won that meeting 41-10 and have won the last three games between the two sides.

The point spread for the game has been set at five, making the Colts favourites at -5 points and giving the Saints a handicap of +5. Betting against the spread so far has been mainly in favour of the Colts, with 66% of money backing the AFC side to come out on top and win their second Super Bowl in four years. New Orleans have never played in a Super Bowl before.

The Over/Under total for the game has been set at a high 55 points ad betting so far has seen 81% of money backing the Over. However, both teams have been remarkable even on the Over/Under so far, with a combined twenty-three Overs and twenty-one Unders.

Super Bowl forty-four will be held at the Sun Life Stadium in the south of Florida on the 7th February.
