English Premier League football – Chelsea vs Arsenal match betting

Posted in English Premiership, Sports on February 7, 2010 @ 3:00 pm by Richard Hutchinson

Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge today after their title dream was left in tatters by Man Utd last weekend. Arsenal will feel that they have to beat Chelsea today to stay in the title race, after United ruthlessly exposed them time and time again.

Chelsea also look vulnerable at the moment, and were lacklustre midweek at Hull, where they drew 1-1. One positive in that match for them was the successful return of Didier Drogba from the African Cup of Nations, but they will be hoping for a repeat performance of their match against Arsenal earlier this season, when they triumphed 3-0.

Chelsea are the  favourites to win match, priced at at 5/6 (bet £60 to win £50) with Canbet and Victor Chandler. Paddy Power are prepared to oppose Arsenal at odds of 4/1, while the draw is a best-priced 13/5 with Bet365.

Arsene Wenger will be extremely worried about his side’s performances against the top teams so far this season. In three matches against Chelsea and Man Utd, Arsenal have not picked up a point, and have conceded eight goals in those matches. This, coupled with the persistent rumours that Cesc Fabregas will be leaving for Barcelona in the summer, is not a good sign for Arsenal.

Some punters may question Arsenal’s odds of 4/1 as generous, because they won this fixture 2-1 last season thanks to a brace of goals from Robin Van Persie. Van Persie will again be sorely missed through injury, but Fabregas has proven that is it not just up to the strikers to find the net.

One reason to take on Arsenal is the terrible performance by Gael Clichy last weekend. Carlo Ancelotti will be keen to exploit the left flank if it can help him gain the upper-hand over Chelsea’s London rivals.

William Hill offer 9/5 that Chelsea will be leading the match at both half time and full time, but the Draw/Draw outcome is 5/1 with Corals.

In the correct score market, a 1-0 home win is deemed the most likely result at 6/1 with most firms. 2-0 is 7/1, whereas the odds of a 3-0 Chelsea whitewash don’t look too generous at 14/1. Arsenal have scored a whopping 60 goals in 24 games, so many will be overlooking a 0-0 stalemate at 10/1 with Skybet.

Chelsea’s lead at the top of the table is just two points, and as a result their title odds are 5/6 before this crunch match. The Gunners are a stand-out 10/1 with Skybet for title glory, but those odds will tumble if they can snatch three points at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.
