Super Bowl betting – in running betting commentary and scoro

Posted in NFL Football, Sports, Super Bowl XLIV on February 7, 2010 @ 10:42 pm by Richard Hutchinson

Final score: New Orleans Saints 31 Indianapolis Colts 17

9.52pm (EST) - Brees is named MVP. No surprise there.

9.45pm (EST) - Well done to the Saints. What a fairytale ending. If ever a city deserved a win, this is it. The bettors have taken a kicking though with the dog and the under both collecting. On the props there were very few suprises so it looks like the bookies will be celebrating.
9.44pm (EST) - 44 seconds on the clock. Lots of kneeling! It’s all over. A result at 31-17 to the Saints and a huge comeback from 10-0 down early on. They hit 4/1 in running when they were ten down and anyone who bet them at those odds must be feeling pretty smart.

9.44pm (EST) - That’s it. The Colts fail to score and there is no way they can win from here.

9.42pm (EST) - 1.16 to play and the Colts need to score now. They’ve taken a TO. Back out to 31/1 to win the game now.

9.38pm (EST) - Colts not running the clock well here, always going down the center. No 69 Saints does a completely stupid unnecessary roughness to give up half the distance of the goal.

9.36pm (EST) – Two minute warning - Colts at the NO 30. You can still take the Colts at 32/1 on Betfair. Could that be a fantastic price? It will take a minor miracle for the Colts to get up from here but if they can get the TD here and a lucky onside kick then it’s not totally impossible. We’d make it about 16/1 here.

9.34pm (EST) - Well the bookies will be hoping the Saints shut it down now. As long as the game goes under the trading rooms of bookmakers around the world will be awash with champagne. It’s not impossible the game goes over 57 but it shouldn’t do, if the Saints can manage the clock effectively. But as we have seen, it only takes one onside kick to change the balance of the game.

9.29pm (EST) - Curse of the text commentator! Immediate interception. And returned for a SAINTS TOUCHDOWN! That should be game over, if they can keep their heads. 31-17 and the Colts are now 50/1 to win the game. Yes, that’s right. 50/1 with 3 minutes and 12 seconds on the clock. I think that’s quite generous.

9.28pm (EST) - What’s going on? No fumbles, no interceptions. Is this the best Super Bowl in technical terms in living memory? I am in shock. It’s actually a great game. Colts are 2.98 still and 1.50 on the Saints. Third down and this is crucial.

9.23pm (EST) - The commentators are starting to talk about overtime. You could have taken 8/1 on the game going to OT but that would have been poor value on the stats. What an advertisement for the NFL if it does go the full distance and remains a tie.

9.21pm (EST) - The betting line is now Saints 1.48 and Colts 3.00 with 5.35 to play and the score 24-17 to the Saints. The bookies will be crossing their fingers now as a Saints win is massive for most of them. The total is 44.5 with Stan James.

9.18pm (EST) - Video replay shows he had possession on the two point attempt. It looks like they are going to give it. This is a huge, huge call. Points are given and the Saints lead 24-17. That’s the crucial seven points.

9.17pm (EST) - The under/over now stands at 44.5 with the under at +110.

9.14pm (EST) - The two point attempt fails.  The market moves to 2.34 Colts and 1.73 Saints. What a game! There’s a challenge on the play now.

9.13pm (EST) - TOUCHDOWN SAINTS – The Saints take the lead and will go for two. At 22-17 it’s worth them locking up the extra point if they can. It’s 2.64 and 1.66 Saints before the 2 attempt.

9.10pm (EST) - The Saints are edging their way down the field. The bettors can hardly split them and for the first time New Orleans takes the lead in the betting; they are 1.98 on the money line while the Colts are 2.01. That’s with the Colts on second down and 4 on the Colts 17 yard line.

9.04pm (EST) - A long, long field goal attempt for the Colts. The 51 yard attempt is wide left and it remains 17-16 to the Colts. The Saints have a good field position too now. The market now makes it 1.83 to the Colts and 2.18 to the Saints on the money line. The total is down to 43.5.

9.03pm (EST) - Colts go for it on 4th and 2 and make it. They get to the Saints 32 and that should be a big play for them. 1.43 and 3.25 is the money line.

8.56pm (EST) - The clock ticks down to the end of the Third Quarter and the Colts lead 17-16. This is what all neutral viewers hoped for. The under/over is 48.5 and the point spread remains Colts -3.5. On the money line you can bet the Colts at 1.52 and the Saints at 2.88. One score either way could decide this game.

8.46pm (EST) - Saints nail a huge field goal to take it within one point. 17-16 to the Colts and the line remains 3.5. The money line has 1.54 and 2.84 in favor of the Colts.

8.46pm (EST) - Brees doing a good job with Reggie Bush receiving. Colts now 1.59 and Saints 2.66. The line sits at 3.5.

8.38pm (EST) - TOUCHDOWN COLTS – Addai forces his way in from the four yard line. Colts are now -4.5 with Stan James and on the money line they go 1.48 Colts and 3.05 Saints. With the Colts leading 17-13 the bookies would love it if the game stopped now – they’d get the chalk beaten, they’d win on the money line and the under would pay! I don’t think it’s going to be that easy for them though.

8.36pm (EST) - Bettors obviously knew something as Dallas Clark takes them to the NO 20.  Now 1.52 Colts.

8.35pm (EST) - The Colts are back driving up the field and bettors want to be with them. They are now 1.66 and Saints 2.48 with 8.43 left in the 3rd quarter on the Saints 48, third down.

8.27pm (EST) - TOUCHDOWN SAINTS – Wow! Saints take the lead. 13-10 and the game has changed. And it’s 1.85 Colts, 2.18 Saints on Betfair and the point spread is Saints +0.5 with Stan James. The under/over is 47.5.

8.24pm (EST) - The Colts looked slightly rattled for the first time in the game. The Saints definitely have the momentum. On Betfair they now bet 1.68 and 2.44 in the Colts favor.

8.22pm (EST) - Saints recover the onside kick for a massive result at the start of the third quarter. The line moves to 3.5. That was the first onside kick in Super Bowl history that was not in the fourth quarter. Brave move.

7.49pm (EST) - HALF TIME – Saints definitely owned the second quarter and the first half under bettors win easily with the score at 10-6 to the Colts. The game line is now 4.5 and the under/over is down to 43.5. You can take 28/1 there is no TD scorer in the second half.

7.49pm (EST) - Saints kick a field goal to make it 10-6. Seconds to go to Half Time.

7.41pm (EST) - Saints don’t make it and the Colts take over from their one yard line. 1.30 Colts and 4.30 Saints now. The score remains 10-3.

7.36 pm (EST) – Fourth down and one and a half yards to go. This is going to be a big play. 1.41 Colts and 3.55 Saints now. If they score a TD, how will they bet? Roughly 1.66 and 2.50 would be my guess.

7.36 pm (EST) – Two minute warning and the Saints are on the Colts one yard line. The market is now 1.48 Colts and 3.05 Saints.

7.33 pm (EST) – The Saints get to the Colts three yard line and the market shifts to 1.54 Colts and 2.82 Saints on Betfair.

7.30pm (EST) – The Saints are creeping up the field. They pick up big yardage at the Colts 21 and the game suddenly becomes interesting again. They bet 1.48 Colts and 3.00 Saints on Betfair.

7.26pm (EST) – The Saints have possession again. The line has moved to 7.5 and the Betfair market makes it 1.39 Colts and 3.55 Saints.

7.16pm (EST) – Brees is sacked on third down and the Saints are going to have to kick. It’s a long one. Hartley nails it (46 yards) to make it 10-3 to the Colts. That’s 1.31 Colts and 4.10 Saints on Betfair. They’re having a think over at Stan James but they’ve gone up and the line is now 7.5. Anyone betting the over on longest FG has collected.

7.14pm (EST) – The Saints get traction for the first time in the game and make it to the Colts’ 29 yard line with a first down. The line is now down to 6.5 with Stan James. On Betfair they go 1.35 Colts and 3.75 Saints.

7.01pm (EST) – End of the first quarter. 10-0 to the Colts. The under wins on the first quarter score and the Colts should be pretty happy with their position one quarter of the way in. The point spread is now 10.5 with Stan James and the money line is 1.26 Colts and 4.80 Saints.

7.01pm (EST) – TD Colts! Garcon gets the first touchdown on the game. A 96 yard drive, the longest in Super Bowl history. Garcon was 10/1 to be Super Bowl MVP. The line is now 10.5 with Stan James and the Colts are 1.25 on Betfair and the Saints are 5.00.

6.59pm (EST) – The Colts power through to the Saints 23 and it goes 1.29 Colts on Befair and 4.3o Saints. The line is 8.5 on Stan James. Those who bet the under/over for the first quarter at 10.5 can be pretty sure it’s going under.

6.56pm (EST) – The total is down to 53.5 with the Colts in possession on their own 47.  The Colts are 1.38 on Betfair with the Saints at 3.55.

6.51pm (EST) – Saints punt and the Colts will start from their own four yard line. The over 57 bettors must be getting worried at this stage. It’s now 1.46 Colts and 3.10 Saints.  Saints are now +6.5 on the pointspread.

6.48pm (EST) – Reggie Bush rushes and makes it to midfield. The Betfair market moves to 1.54 Colts and 2.84 Saints.

6.41pm (EST) – Colts take the field goal and lead the game. They drift in the betting as they fail to get the TD and are now 1.47 on Betfair with the Saints on offer at 3.05. The point spread is now back to 6.5.

6.40pm (EST) - Colts land first penalty of the game. That was one for the dog bettors as the Saints were heavy favorites to pick up the first penalty.

6.39pm (EST) – Colts get to the NO 25 yard line and they look comfortable so far. 1.36 Colts and 3.55 Saints on Betfair while Stan James make the line 7.5 now.

6.34pm (EST) – The line has already moved to Colts -6.5 (-110 each side) at Stan James with the Colts 2nd and 8 on their own 46.

6.32pm (EST) – Saints receive and make a small gain in the return. They go 3-0 and the odds swiftly change on Befair. Saints now 3.05 with Betfair and Colts are 1.47.

6.26pm (EST) – The coin toss ceremony takes place. The bookies are sweating on this one! You’d be amazed about how many people bet on this. New Orleans calls head and Emmit Smith tosses the coin. It comes up head and the Saints will receive. The NFC have won the coin toss for the last 13 years – how’s that for a run?

6.21pm (EST) – Carrie Underwood is up for the national anthem. The five time Grammy Award winner clocks in at one minute 45 seconds. The under/over was one minute 42 seconds so the over bettors are the winners. Well done on the first winners of the night.

6.19pm (EST) – Queen Latifah takes the stage. No props on her I am afraid.

6.10pm (EST) – The Saints are the first on to the field. Sounds to us like the crowd is a little more for the Colts than the Saints. I am not sure why when they seem to have come on to the theme of CSI.

6.02pm (EST) – Our local sources tell us that the wind has dropped and it’s a fantastic day down in Miami. Does this point to a high scoring game? The public have shaved the total down to 56.5 from 57 but that’s still a pretty high number for a Super Bowl.

5.48pm (EST) - Why not have a bet on how long it takes Carrie Underwood to sing the Star Spangled Banner? Bet USA are betting the under/over at one minute and 42 seconds. You can bank your winnings before the game even starts and then go out to dinner and be the only person in the restaurant!

5.32pm (EST) – Less than an hour to kick off and the excitement is really growing. The Saints are 4.5 point underdogs with most bookies  but public money continues to pour on to the Colts.

The under/over has been shaded down to 56.5 from 57 but the majority of money is on the over according to all our sources.

On the money line, you can bet -185 the Colts and +182 the Saints with Betfair, which is a nice tight market.

First half betting has the Saints +144 and the Colts -145; again, a very competitive market for bettors at Betfair.
