Premier League football betting – Chelsea vs Manchester City

Posted in English Premiership, Soccer, Sports on February 27, 2010 @ 11:45 am by Matt Knowles

Premier League leaders Chelsea host Manchester City today in the Premier League hoping to re-establish their four-point lead over City’s rivals Manchester United. The Blues’ manager Carlo Ancelotti must have had enough of facing old rivals after losing 2-1 at the San Siro on Wednesday night to Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan. Roberto Mancini, City’s manager, clashed with Ancelotti several times during his spell as Mourinho’s predecessor and his side will be looking to do the double over Chelsea after their 2-1 win at the City of Manchester Stadium in December.

The home side go into the game as favourites at 4/9 (bet £9 to win £4 profit), leaving City as underdogs at 7/1. The Citizens’ record away from home does not make good reading, however, with only three wins from thirteen matches. Their record against Chelsea may be even more worrying and the Blues have won eight of the past ten meetings, conceding only three goals and scoring twenty.  The draw is priced at 7/2 with Victor Chandler and City have recorded the joint-highest number of stalemates in the league with 10, matched only by Stoke and Hull.

A 2-0 win for Chelsea has been made the favourite score for tonight’s match at 13/2 with Sky Bet, with 1-0, the score in three of the last ten meetings, available at 7/1 with Canbet. A 1-1 draw is 8/1 and a 0-0 draw, such as City played out at Anfield recently, is 14/1. A shock 1-0 win for the visitors is 18/1 but Chelsea’s home record is remarkable, with twelve wins and one draw in thirteen league matches this season.

Ivorian striker Didier Drogba, who has scored nineteen goals in twenty-two appearances this season, has been made favourite to open the scoring today at 7/2, despite looking fairly ineffective against Inter in midweek. He is followed by French former City man Nicholas Anelka at 9/2 and Frank Lampard at 6/1. In the absence of Adebayor, who is currently serving a four-match ban, Carlos Tevez is seen as City’s best hope of scoring the first goal of the match at 10/1 with Paddy Power.

Chelsea are 11/10 to lead today at both half-time and full-time and 7/2 with Ladbrokes to win the match after drawing at half-time, with the bookmakers offering 13/2 that both halves end in a draw. City are 16/1 to be winning at the end of each half and 18/1 to win at the final whistle after the teams were level at the interval.

The men from Stamford Bridge have been made favourites to win the Premier League this season at 4/6 with Canbet. Chelsea have been excellent at home and have shown that they can beat the big teams, doing the double over Arsenal. Manchester City cannot aspire to win the league this season but will be challenging for a top-four spot and a place in next season’s Champions League. Bet365 make City 5/2 to achieve this.
