The Indian Premier League’s third season begins on the 12th of March. Cricket’s richest competition, featuring eight teams, will be played over forty-five days and will be the first ever cricket tournament to be broadcast live over YouTube.com. Four new venues have also been added for this season’s competition.
The Delhi Daredevils have been made favourites for the tournament at 5/1 (bet £10 to win £50 profit) with Totesport. The Daredevils finished top of the table last season and looked set to take the title before crashing out in the semi-final against the Deccan Chargers. Delhi have made some additions to their squad, bringing in quality players such as young all-rounder Moises Henriques and bowler Wayne Parnell.
The next favourites for the tournament this year are the Deccan Chargers at 6/1. The Chargers finished last in the first season of the IPL but were Champions last year, beating the Bangalore Royal Challengers in the final. Deccan have added some new names to their squad but perhaps the most noticeable is Kemar Roach, bought at a player auction for $720,000 USD.
The Chennai Super Kings are 13/2 with Boylesports for the title this year. The Super Kings were runners-up in the league’s first season and will look to build on their performance last year, where they finished fourth. Slightly behind Chennai are the Bangalore Royal Challengers at 7/1 with Betfred, with the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Night Riders both priced at 8/1. The Rajasthan Royals, at 9/1, and the Kings XI Punjab, at 10/1, complete the field, both with Boylesports.
Virender Sehwag of the Delhi Daredevils has been made favourite to finish the season as the league’s top-scoring batsman at 7/1. Sehwag has the best strike-rate of any player in the league at 168.71. Following him is Sachin Tendulkar at 8/1, and the thirty-six year-old is the only player ever to score a double-century in an ODI. West Indies Captain Chris Gayle is at 9/1 and several players, including AB de Villiers and Brendon McCullum, are at 10/1.
Dale Steyn and Mutiah Muralitharan are 7/1 joint-favourites to finish the season as top bowlers. Harbhajan Singh is 8/1 and he is followed by Amit Mishra, Lasith Malinga and Shane Warne, all at 10/1.
