International Friendly Betting Preview – Tanzania v Brazil

Posted in International Friendly, Soccer, Sports on June 7, 2010 @ 2:30 pm by Tristan Wootton

DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA – World Cup joint-favourites Brazil take on Tanzania this afternoon, in yet another match that has been planned to boost the brand of Brazilian football in Africa. Brazil will insist that the match forms part of a standard tournament preparation schedule, just as Group G rivals Portugal have decided to conclude their schedule of friendly matches with a game against Mozambique tomorrow.

The bookmakers have taken evasive action to install Brazil as heavy favourites to beat Tanzania, who lie in 108th position in the Fifa rankings. Coral offer the best price about a Brazil win, which is priced up at 1/16. Many punters will be looking elsewhere for a bet, because at 1/16 you would have to bet £160 just to make a measly £10 profit on the game.

William Hill are trying to attract money for the draw, which they have at 14s. Meanwhile Tanzania are the 50/1 underdogs with Victor Chandler – an extraordinary price which is very rarely seen in the world of football betting.

Brazil have only played twice this calendar year, but some pundits think that Dunga’s planning will make them a fresher side when they attempt to win back the World Cup this summer in South Arica. Bookmakers across the UK have noted a steady stream of money for the Brazilians in the outright market, and they are now 9/2 to win the World Cup from 6/1.

Going back to this afternoon’s friendly encounter, Brazil will be without goalkeeper Julio Cesar and attacking left-back Michel Bastos. In their absence, Tanzania may fancy their chances of at least scoring a goal, but Brazil have kept clean sheets in their previous five matches. Admittedly Tanzania have scored in five of their last six games, but that was against the likes of Rwanda and Zanzibar.

Brazil have many players who pose goalscoring threats, but backers of the Taifa Stars will be hoping that Mrisho Ngasa can score his seventh goal in as many matches.

In the half time/full time betting, the most likely outcome is Brazil/Brazil at 1/4 with Bet 365. It is 6/1 with Totesport for Brazil to draw at half time, but then to go and win the match in the second half. Tanzania/Tanzania is at 175/1 with Paddy Power.

The correct score betting market could be a road to riches, and many punters will be basing their predictions on Brazil keeping a clean sheet. A 3-0 win to Brazil is the favourite scoreline at 11/2, but 4-0 is not far behind at 6/1. 5-0 to Brazil is 8/1 with Sky Bet, and optimists may be tempted by a 10-0 rout at a whopping 125/1 with Bet365.

As for the handicaps, Brazil are evens (1/1) with Stan James and Bet 365 to win by four goals of more, and 9/2 with William Hill to win by at least six goals.

It is 5/1 on Betfair that a hat-trick is scored during the match.
