LONDON – Chelsea remain the hot favorites to win the English Premiership despite the fact that London rivals Arsenal can top the table tonight if they beat Bolton by two clear goals at the Emirates.
Chelsea are odds on with all bookies and are a best price of 9/10 (bet $10 to make $9 profit) with Betfair to win the Premiership title.
Reigning champions Manchester United are out to 7/2 with Betfair despite being in second place on 47 points, one point behind Chelsea, although the Blues have a game in hand over Sir Alex Fergusson’s side.
Arsenal can be backed at 4/1 for Premiership glory with Betfred and Coral but few punters will want to back a side that lacks strength in depth and has been shaky in defence throughout the season.
Next in the betting are Manchester City at best odds of 33/1 with Bet 365 and amazingly Tottenham are next most fancied, at odds of 125/1, shorter than the best odds on Liverpool which are 150/1.
Portsmouth remain the favorites to be relegated at a best price of 4/11 with Coral. Their short odds are as much of a reflection on their off field financial position as their position at the bottom of the table with just 14 points from 20 games. The British tax authorities have applied for a winding up order on the club for failure to pay their debts and a judge yesterday ruled that the HMRC, Britain’s tax collectors, has every right to pursue the debt. Portsmouth are expected to appeal the decision.
Hull City are next in the betting to be playing Championship football next season and are offered at a best price of 4/6 with Coral, followed by Burnley who can be bet at best odds of 5/6 with Paddy Power, Stan James and Victor Chandler.
Wolves are next in the relegation betting at 11/8 with Victor Chandler, followed by Bolton at 3/1 with Stan James and Bet 365.
