Both teams started the season looking to become the first teams to win the Super Bowl after an undefeated season and went 13-0 before resting key players late in their schedules. However, those few defeats were quickly forgotten and the teams surged through the play-offs, with Indy beating Baltimore and New York and the Saints overcoming the Vikings after thrashing Arizona.

NFL NFC Championship Playoffs – Minnesota Vikings vs New Orleans Saints
The NFC Championship playoff game is tonight and Minnesota will fight it out with New Orleans for a place in the Super Bowl. Both teams will be confident going into the game after winning emphatically in the last round, the Vikings crushing Dallas 34-3 and New Orleans shooting down the Cardinals 45-14.

New York travel to Indianapolis tonight to face the Colts in the AFC Championship game with the winner earning a place at Super Bowl 2010 in Miami. The Colts were much stronger than New York during the regular season and went 13-0 before resting their key players in their final games. The Jets were less impressive at 9-7 but will draw confidence from their win over Indianapolis in week sixteen and their 17-14 upset of San Diego in the last round.
NFL Divisional Playoffs – New York Jets vs San Diego Chargers
New York travel to the in-form San Diego in the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs. The Jets beat Cincinnati in the Wild Card round and should be confident coming off the back of three straight wins. However, San Diego are the form team of the whole league, having won their last eleven games in a row.
NFL Divisional Playoffs – Dallas Cowboys vs Minnesota Vikings
Dallas travel to Minnesota tonight in arguable the most eagerly anticipated game of the playoffs so far. Both teams won their divisions but Minnesota's record of 12-4 was slightly better than Dallas' 11-5, earning them a first round bye. The Cowboys may be the more confident of the two, however, as they have now won four games in a row, including two shut-outs and back-to-back blow-outs of a strong Philadelphia Eagles team.

The first round of the play-offs is over and there are just eight teams left in the hunt for the Super Bowl. The weekend's action saw the Bengals, Patriots, Eagles and Packers eliminated from the running.

New York travel to Cincinnati today in the Wild Card round of the NFL play-offs. The winner goes through to the next round to face either the Indianapolis Colts or the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Divisional Round. Cincinnati were the better team during the regular season, going 10-6 to New York's 9-7, but that counts for nothing in the post-season and New York will surely think they can get a result today.

The biggest game of the College football is held tonight at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena as two undefeated teams, Texas and Alabama, meet to determine who is the best team in the country. Participation in the game is decided by two polls and a computer ranking system, designed to rank the teams in order of ability. The two highest ranked teams face each other in the BCS Championship Game.
NCAA Football GMAC Bowl – Troy Trojans vs Central Michigan Chippewas
Mobile Alabama is the venue for the eleventh annual GMAC Bowl, this year contested between the Troy Trojans and the Central Michigan Chippewas, neither of which has appeared in the game before. In the last Bowl before the BCS Championship Game the 9-3 Trojans will look to upset the favoured Chippewas, who went 11-2.
