Tottenham look to keep the pressure on their rivals in the race for fourth place as they face Bolton at White Hart Lane in the Premier League. Spurs currently hold the coveted position but they are level on points with Aston Villa and only one clear of Manchester City. Bolton, however, have little left to play for this season after avoiding relegation and Wanderers can finish no higher than their current fourteenth place.

The race for the Premiership is hotting up, and at present Manchester United are in the driving seat to claim the title for a fifth time in a row. However, both Chelsea and Arsenal will have something to say about that, and United's lead is a slender one, only one point ahead of Chelsea and two ahead of Arsenal.

Tottenham will try to get past Bolton at the second attempt today, as they play their replay after drawing the first match 1-1. Kevin Davies had put Bolton ahead after the 34th minute but Jermain Defoe equalised in the 62nd minute, and Spurs could not find a way through Bolton's resilient defence as they pressed for a winner. Harry Redknapp's side will fancy their chances in the Cup, and with Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal all out, they could go all the way to Wembley.

Owen Coyle's imminent departure to Bolton leaves a void to be filled at Burnley and the new manager has a real job on his hands to keep the newly-promoted side in the Premier League. The Clarets have impressed at times this season, particularly at home, but pathetic away form threatens to ruin everything they have achieved. Coyle has been credited with much of the club's success while working on a very limited budget and his successor has a hard act to follow.

Aston Villa host Bolton Wanderers this week, with the Trotters having been thrashed twice by Chelsea in their last two games. Villa have not been in great form either, failing to win in their last three games since they beat Chelsea. Villa are currently seventh in the league and they are one of a clutch of clubs hoping to take advantage of Liverpool’s weakness to qualify for the Champions League.

The last place any side would want to go right now is Stamford Bridge unfortunately for Bolton that is where they are headed tonight in the fourth round of the Carling Cup. Chelsea have been on exceptional form at home this year, winning all eight of their home games in all competitions, including 4-0 and 5-0 thrashings of Athletico Madrid and Blackburn in their last two matches. Bolton also had a good weekend, beating Everton in a 3-2 thriller.
