San Diego Chargers vs Kansas City Chiefs - final score and betting result

KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Chiefs pulled off a shock win over Super Bowl second favorites San Diego Chargers with a 21-14 victory. The win was not only the first time in five they had covered the spread against the Chargers but also opens up the AFC West, which San Diego have won for the last four seasons.
The game was played in heavy rain and when San Diego took the lead through a Gates three yard touchdown with a minute and 56 seconds left in the first quarter it looked like the Chargers were going to keep up their winning ways. But a minute and 10 seconds later Charles ran for a 56 yard touchdown to level the scores and the Chiefs got their self-belief back. First Cassel hit Moaeki for a two yard touchdown to take a 14-7 lead and then with 2:03 on the clock rookie Dexter McCluster returned a punt 94 yards for a touchdown and a 21-7 half time lead.
The Chiefs then had to endure a torrid second half. At 2:33 in the third quarter Naanee ran 59 yards for a Chargers touchdown and took the game within a touchdown. From 2:44 downwards in the fourth quarter the Chargers were in the red zone but they couldn`t come up with the necessary play and the long-suffering Chiefs fans had a famous victory.
The Chiefs had been the 4.5 point underdogs going into the game, with some bookmakers offering as high as +6 on the home side, and the under/over was 44.5, meaning the under won. On the money line the Chiefs were +200. Gates was best priced at 10/1 to score the first touchdown. The Chiefs to be winning at half time and full time was a 4/1 shot.
Bookmakers reported the result as "excellent", saying that over 85 per cent of all point spread bets were on the Chargers and only 43 per cent of bettors had taken the under.
The San Diego Chargers have drifted in Superbowl XLV betting and are now out to 14/1 with Ladbrokes, having been 11/1 second favorites prior to the first game. The Chiefs had been 150/1 to win the Super Bowl but are now top priced at 94/1 on Betfair.
The Chiefs are now 5/1 with Ladbrokes to win the AFC West while the Chargers are out to 4/11 (from 1/4) with Betfred. In week two Kansas travel to Cleveland while the Chargers host the Jaguars.
