ARLINGTON, TX - The Indianapolis Colts head the betting for Super Bowl XLV following the completion of the 2010 pre-season schedule. They are on offer at best odds of 9/1 (bet $10 to make $90 profit) with Bet 365 and Boylesports.
In what is probably the most open betting race in the NFL for many years, the bookies have struggled to identify one team that stands out over the others. There are three joint-second favorites at odds of 11/1, which are the Dallas Cowboys (with Bet 365, Coral and Betfred), New Orleans Saints (with Bet 365 and Paddy Power) and San Diego Chargers (with Bet 365 and Boylesports).
The Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers have been the main teams supported by bettors. Having been 16/1 shots prior to pre-season, the Ravens are now available at no bigger than 12/1 with Paddy Power and William Hill following their 3-1 pre-season run. The Packers are now best priced at 12/1 with Betfred, in from 14/1, with QB Aaron Rodgers having impressed in pre-season, particularly in the Packers 59-24 demolition of the Colts in week three.
The New England Patriots are 14/1 with Bet 365 and Blue Square, while the Minnesota Vikings are 16/1 with Ladbrokes and Paddy Power. The Vikings had the best net points record of any team in pre-season with +34, one ahead of the Ravens. The Colts had the worst record at -70 as they went 0-4 and the Bears had the second worst record at -38 as they also went 0-4. Only one team went 4-0 in pre-season and that was the San Francisco 49ers, who are on offer at 28/1 with Coral and Paddy Power.
The New York Jets are 16/1 with Totesport but are generally on offer at 12/1 as bettors seem to rate them as one of the strongest sides this season. All other teams are 25/1 or bigger for the Super Bowl, including the Atlanta Falcons at 28/1, New York Giants at 28/1, Pittsburgh Steelers at 28/1, Cincinnati Bengals at 33/1 and Philadelphia Eagles at 33/1.
The biggest outsiders are the Detroit Lions and St Louis Rams at 200/1, followed by Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Bucs and Kansas City Chiefs at 150/1.
