NFL NFC Championship Playoffs - Minnesota Vikings vs New Orleans Saints
By Matt Knowles on 2010-01-24 22:40:48
The NFC Championship playoff game is tonight and Minnesota will fight it out with New Orleans for a place in the Super Bowl. Both teams will be confident going into the game after winning emphatically in the last round, the Vikings crushing Dallas 34-3 and New Orleans shooting down the Cardinals 45-14.
The hosts are favourites for the game on the money line at -185 (bet $185 to win $100 profit), leaving the Vikings as underdogs at +170 (bet $100 to win $170 profit). Betting on the money line so far has largely favoured the visitors with 81% of action backing an upset tonight.
The point spread for the game has been set at four, making the Saints favourites at -4 points and giving the Vikings a handicap of +4 points. Betting against the spread has been quite even and 54% of money has backed the Saints to beat the spot. Last time the teas met the spread was similar and the Vikings came away with a 30-27 win in October 2008.
Both teams have performed better on the field this season than they have against the spread, with Minnesota winning at 13-4 but only covering at 10-6-1 and New Orleans only beating the spot nine times despite winning fourteen games.
The Over/Under for the game has been set at 53 points and betting so far has seen 75% of action behind the Over. However, both teams have leaned towards the Under so far, with eight Overs and nine Unders each.
The Saints have been made second-favourites to win the Super Bowl this year, priced at 21/10, but the Vikings are not far behind at 9/2.
