By Matt Knowles on 2010-01-24 19:00:43
New York travel to Indianapolis tonight to face the Colts in the AFC Championship game with the winner earning a place at Super Bowl 2010 in Miami. The Colts were much stronger than New York during the regular season and went 13-0 before resting their key players in their final games. The Jets were less impressive at 9-7 but will draw confidence from their win over Indianapolis in week sixteen and their 17-14 upset of San Diego in the last round.
The hosts are favourites for the game on the money line at -333 (bet $333 to win $100 profit) leaving the Jets as underdogs at +300 (bet $100 to win $300 profit). Betting on the money line so far has been very even with 51% of money backing New York to cause an upset tonight.
The point spread for the game has been set at 7.5 points, making the Colts favourites at -7.5 points and giving the Jets a handicap of +7.5 points. Betting against the spread has leaned towards Indianapolis and so far 61% of money has backed them to beat the spot tonight.
New York performed equally well on the field and against the spread this season, going 9-7 during the regular season and 2-0 in the play-offs while covering at Ā the same rate. The Colts have not managed to equal their on-field record of 15-2 and have only covered at 11-5-1.
The Over/Under for the game has been set at 40.5 points and betting against the spread has seen 56% of money backing the Over. The teams have split on the Over/Under so far this season, with seventeen Overs, seventeen Unders and one pus in their combined thirty-five decisions.
Indianapolis have been made strong favourites to win the Super Bowl this year at 13/10, far ahead of the Jets, who at 8/1 are seen as the least likely team to triumph this year.
