NFL Divisional Playoffs - New York Jets vs San Diego Chargers
By Matt Knowles on 2010-01-17 20:40:57
New York travel to the in-form San Diego in the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs. The Jets beat Cincinnati in the Wild Card round and should be confident coming off the back of three straight wins. However, San Diego are the form team of the whole league, having won their last eleven games in a row.
The Chargers are favourites for the game on the money line at -300 (bet $300 to win $100 profit), leaving the Jets as underdogs at +280 (bet $100 to win $280 profit). Betting on the money line so far has been split very evenly and so far 51% of money has backed an upset for New York.
The point spread for the game has been set at nine, making the Chargers favourites at -9 points and giving the Jets a handicap of +9 points. Betting against the spread has so far been in favour of the hosts, with 71% of action backing them to beat the spot tonight. Last time the teams met they would have covered tonight`s spread, beating New York 48-29 in September 2008.
San Diego may have gone an impressive 13-3 on the field this season but only managed to cover the spread at 8-7-1. New York performed as well against the spread as they did on the field, covering at 9-7 in the regular season.
The Over/Under total for the game has been set at 42.5 points and betting so far has seen 67% of action backing the Over. The Chargers did indeed lean towards the Over during the regular season, going 10-5-1, and New York have now split 8-8-1 on the points total.
The Chargers` run of form has seen them made third-favourites for the Super Bowl this year at 7/2 (bet $20 to win $70 profit). New York are seen as the least likely team this year and are priced at 25/1.
