NFL Divisional Playoffs - Dallas Cowboys vs Minnesota Vikings
By Matt Knowles on 2010-01-17 17:00:06
Dallas travel to Minnesota tonight in arguable the most eagerly anticipated game of the playoffs so far. Both teams won their divisions but Minnesota`s record of 12-4 was slightly better than Dallas` 11-5, earning them a first round bye. The Cowboys may be the more confident of the two, however, as they have now won four games in a row, including two shut-outs and back-to-back blow-outs of a strong Philadelphia Eagles team.
The hosts are favourites for the game on the money line at -30 (bet $130 to win $100 profit), leaving Dallas as underdogs at +12 (bet $100 to win $120 profit). Betting on the money line so far has been heavily in favour of Dallas with 79% of action backing an upset.
The point spread for the game has been set at a slim three points, making the Vikings favourites at -3 points and giving the Cowboys a handicap of +3 points. Betting against the spread has been fairly even, with 52% of action backing the Cowboys to beat the spot tonight. Last time the sides met was also in Minnesota and Dallas came away with a 35-31 win.
Both teams performed better on the field this season than they did against the spread, with Dallas covering at 9-7 despite winning at 11-5 and the Vikings going 9-6-1 against the spread while winning at 12-4.
The Over/Under total for the game is set at 47.5 points and betting so far has seen 82% of money backing the Over. However, neither team finished the season with more Overs than Unders, with Dallas recording seven Overs and nine Unders and Minnesota going 8-8 on the points total.
Both sides are given a good chance of winning the Super Bowl this season but they will know that tonight`s game is a large hurdle to clear. The closeness of the teams is reflected in their odds and they are both priced at 7/1.
