NFL Wild Card Play-Offs - Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys
By Matt Knowles on 2010-01-10 00:05:31
Dallas host Philadelphia tonight in the first round of the NFC Wild Card round of the play-offs with the winner going on to face either the New Orleans Saints or the Minnesota Vikings in the next round. Both teams finished the regular season with identical records, going 11-5 but it was Dallas who came out on top of the Eastern Conference, earning home-field advantage for tonight`s game.
The Cowboys go into the game as favourites on the money line at -200 (bet $200 to win $100 profit), leaving the Eagles as underdogs at +175 (bet $100 to win $175 profit). Betting on the money line so far has been mainly in favour of the visitors, with 79% of money backing Philadelphia to score an upset tonight.
The point spread for the game has been set at four points, making the Cowboys favourites at -4 points and giving the Eagles a handicap of +4 points. Betting against the spread has been more even than the money line and 57% of money has backed Dallas to beat the spot. Last time the teams met was also in Dallas, as recently as week seventeen of the current season, and the Cowboys crushed an unmotivated Eagles team 24-0.
Both teams have the same record on the field and both have also been better at winning than covering the spread, with Dallas and Philadelphia both only managing to beat the spot nine ties in their sixteen attempts this season. It is also worth noting that this is not Dallas` favourite month and that they have gone 3-9 against the spread in their last twelve games in January.
The Over/Under for the game has been set at forty-five points for the game and betting so far has seen 75% of money backing the Over. However, the teams do not have a preference one way or the other, with Philadelphia`s ten Overs and six Unders cancelled out by the Cowboys` six Overs and ten Unders.
Neither team is among the very top contenders for the Super Bowl this year but both are in with a chance. Dallas are seen as the more likely team, priced at 11/1, with the Eagles at 20/1.
